Simpson’s trial describe a household divided: Kris Jenner was close to Nicole Brown Simpson, while Robert Kardashian joined Simpson’s defense team and said he believed Simpson was innocent. Their children later recalled being caught between their parents, unsure whose side to take. These are the family members’ memories and opinions—not findings about guilt.
Why the trial divided the Kardashian family
Before the trial, the families were close. Khloé Kardashian later said they called Simpson “Uncle OJ” and Nicole “Auntie Nicole.” But the adults came to opposite positions after Nicole and Ron Goldman were killed: Kris Jenner supported her friend Nicole, while Robert Kardashian served on Simpson’s defense team. The Los Angeles Times reported that this division extended to the children.
The contrast is especially clear in a letter Robert wrote to Kris and their children before the trial. As quoted by the Los Angeles Times, Robert wrote that he believed Simpson was innocent and would continue supporting him unless the court found him guilty. He also acknowledged Kris’s opposing belief, writing, “You are entitled to your beliefs — just as I am.” Kris later reproduced the letter in her 2012 memoir. It records Robert’s stated position at the time, not a legal finding.
What did Kris Jenner say about O.J. Simpson?
During the trial, she described losing both Nicole and Simpson
In footage from an interview recorded while the trial was underway, Kris told Inside Edition: “I think that this has been a really tough year, a tough 15 months for all of us. Not only have we lost Nicole, we lost O.J., too.” The remark conveys how she understood the family’s closeness to both of them at the time; it was not a comment about the evidence or verdict.

Years later, she spoke of regret and what she remembered
In a 2015 interview for the LMN documentary The Secret Tapes of the O.J. Case: The Untold Story, Kris recalled Nicole speaking more openly about danger in her relationship. She remembered Nicole saying, “He’s going to kill me and he’s going to get away with it.” Kris added, “I will always feel guilty that I didn’t pay more attention and didn’t speak up when I thought anything was wrong or asked her more, ‘Do you want to talk about it?’” ABC News reported these comments in its retrospective on Jenner’s account.
Kris also recalled hearing a police call played as evidence and being shocked by Nicole’s pleading voice, which she said she had not heard before. She said she and Robert did not discuss the case, focusing instead on their children, and described their views as “so obviously black and white.” Recalling the not-guilty verdict, she said Robert was “shocked” and “definitely stunned.” She also remembered Simpson calling from jail and telling her, “I didn’t do it.” These are Kris’s recollections as reported by ABC News.

What did Kim Kardashian say about the trial?
She and her siblings felt caught between their parents
In a 2020 conversation with David Letterman, Kim said her mother was vocal in believing her friend had been murdered by Simpson, while her father’s home represented “a whole other situation.” Kim recalled that the children did not know what to believe or whose side to take because they did not want to hurt either parent. “It tore my family apart, I’d say, for the whole time of the trial,” she said, as reported by ABC News Australia. TheGrio also reported that Kim remembered being about 13 or 14, watching the verdict at home, then going to Simpson’s home with Kourtney after it was announced.
Her father took her and Kourtney to court
Kim’s later recollections also include seeing the trial firsthand. The Los Angeles Times reported that, in a 2023 GQ interview, she remembered Robert taking her and Kourtney out of school to attend court. He told them, “I want you girls to witness a piece of history and what a trial is like.” Kim remembered seeing Kris on the other side of the courtroom.

What did Khloé Kardashian remember?
In a 2009 E! True Hollywood Story interview, Khloé described the family’s closeness to Simpson and Nicole: “OJ was always our ‘Uncle OJ’, Nicole was my ‘Auntie Nicole’.” She also said, “It’s sad to see your parents go through so much pain for trying to be true friends.” ABC News Australia reported the remarks.
What did Caitlyn Jenner say about Simpson’s guilt?
Caitlyn Jenner expressed a personal judgment, distinct from the memories of family conflict described by Kris, Kim and Khloé. In 2017, she told Andy Cohen, “I knew he did it,” according to The Washington Post. The Post also reported that her memoir called Simpson “the most narcissistic, egocentric, neediest a—— in the world of sports I had ever seen” and quoted her belief that he “got away with two savage murders.” Those statements are Caitlyn Jenner’s views, not a court’s conclusion about the criminal case.

The remarks fall into two broad strands: Kris’s friendship with Nicole and retrospective regret; Robert’s documented support for Simpson’s defense; and the children’s memories of living with their parents’ opposing positions. Caitlyn’s comments, by contrast, are an explicit personal opinion about guilt. Keeping those accounts distinct matters: a person’s recollection or belief should not be mistaken for a legal finding.
