HBO Max’s Charlotte’s Web is a three-part animated adaptation of E.B. White’s novel, produced by Sesame Workshop. Its “radiant update” is best understood as a production approach: Guru Studio describes a stylized CG world, expressive character designs and a contemporary detail in Fern’s characterization. Those choices suggest a fresh presentation, but the available sources do not establish a critical consensus or measure how closely the special follows the book.
What is HBO Max’s Charlotte’s Web?
It is an animated retelling of E.B. White’s novel, produced by Sesame Workshop. Warner Bros. Discovery announced a U.S. premiere on HBO Max for October 2, 2025, exclusively on the service at launch. The announcement describes it as a three-part special. Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement provides the release details.
For viewing length, Guru Studio lists the format as three episodes of 44 minutes each—about 132 minutes in total. That is the studio’s listed runtime; the distributor’s announcement confirms the three-part format but does not specify episode lengths. Guru Studio’s project page also identifies the production as a family title.
What makes this version an update?
A stylized CG farm and expressive characters
Guru Studio describes the production as a CG retelling intended to honor the novel while giving it a fresh cinematic style. Its design notes say Wilbur has realistic proportions paired with expressive movement, while Charlotte’s appearance shifts from formidable spider to graceful, endearing presence. The studio also says the setting draws on a 1940s Maine farm and the Zuckerman home.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
These choices offer a basis for calling the adaptation visually updated without assuming that every viewer will find it successful. Expressive movement and a softened design for Charlotte could help the characters feel inviting to a family audience; the 1940s setting, meanwhile, keeps the world rooted in the story’s farm context. Those are interpretations of the stated design choices, not independent assessments of the finished special.
Fern’s heritage is part of her design
Guru says Fern’s character design incorporates her Puerto Rican heritage. That is a specific, studio-reported update to how the character is represented. The available production notes do not explain how this choice changes her story or provide a scene-by-scene comparison with White’s novel.

How should viewers judge its faithfulness to the book?
The confirmed details establish the source novel and some adaptation choices, but they do not provide enough evidence for a comprehensive verdict on faithfulness. The format, character designs and updated detail about Fern are useful points of comparison; they do not show how individual scenes, relationships or emotional stakes have been changed.
Readers comparing the special with the novel can look at how the three-part structure handles pacing, how the animation conveys friendship and courage, and whether the farm community and characters retain the qualities they value in the book. For the source itself, the relevant book is E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web, not a tie-in edition for the 2025 special.

Where can you watch it?
The announced U.S. premiere was October 2, 2025, exclusively on HBO Max at launch. Check HBO Max’s listing in your location for current access.
The Associated Press included the special in its September 29–October 5, 2025 streaming guide and identified it as an animated HBO Max series. That independently confirms its release-week presence, but the guide is not a review. Read the AP streaming guide.
