The new post-credit scenes in Until Dawn Remastered helped fuel sequel speculation in 2024. Sony has since confirmed Until Dawn 2: it is planned for PS5 in 2027, but PlayStation describes it as a standalone story with a new cast and setting—not a confirmed continuation of Sam’s or Josh’s story.
What the Remastered ending added
GameSpot reported on October 3, 2024, that the remake includes two new post-credit scenes. One suggests a possible fate for Josh: he survives his encounter with the creature, badly injured, and hears Dr. Hill’s voice. In the other, Sam wakes from a dream years later with a bleeding wound and hears someone call her name. These are reported epilogue details, not confirmation that either character will appear in the sequel. GameSpot’s report described the scenes when no follow-up game had yet been announced.

Is Until Dawn 2 coming?
Yes. PlayStation officially announced Until Dawn 2 on June 2, 2026, with a 2027 release window for PS5. The announcement does not give a more specific launch date or name platforms beyond PS5. PlayStation’s announcement calls the game a standalone experience featuring a new cast and a new world.
A new story, not a confirmed continuation
The sequel follows a crew of ghost hunters who travel to an abandoned tropical island to film a funded episode and encounter genuine supernatural horrors. PlayStation says player decisions shape who survives and that relationships influence story branches. The announcement does not say the game directly continues the branching outcomes of the first game or confirms Sam’s return.

One familiar character is confirmed
Dr. Hill will return, played by Peter Stormare. The sequel’s creative director is Stu Tilley of Firesprite Games; PlayStation says Firesprite took the reins on the sequel and identifies it as the studio’s first release since Horizon: Call of the Mountain. Tilley said, “Your decisions still shape the story: who falls victim, and who survives Until Dawn…” That describes the sequel’s choice-driven premise, not a promise to carry forward the original characters’ endings.
Will Sam be in Until Dawn 2?
Her return has not been confirmed in the announcement. The new-cast and standalone framing means the sequel is not being presented as a direct continuation of Sam’s story, but it does not establish that she is definitely absent. The post-credit scene can be read as a hint that the world has more horrors in store; it is not evidence of a confirmed role for Sam.

How the remake differs from the sequel
The 2024 release revisits the original story, while the announced sequel starts with a new cast and setting. Their shared foundation is choice-led horror, but the remake’s epilogue scenes should not be mistaken for proof that its characters will headline the next game.

What changed in Until Dawn Remastered
PlayStation announced the rebuilt game on August 14, 2024, and released it for PS5 and PC on October 4, 2024. Built with Unreal Engine 5, it added a third-person camera alongside fixed and over-the-shoulder views, revised the prologue, and introduced Hunger totems. The studio said its aim was to preserve the original narrative while expanding selected story elements. PlayStation’s remake announcement details those changes.
