It is less satisfying as a standalone film: its recap compresses the arc, and it does not replace the character and tactical build-up of the episodes. The claim that MAPPA “doesn’t fix” a particular Season 2 fight is not something the available comparisons establish; without naming and comparing that sequence across versions, it should be treated as a critical judgment, not a verified production fact.
What is Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution?
The film combines selected moments from the Shibuya Incident with the first two episodes of Season 3, according to Bradley Russell’s review for GamesRadar+. Its format is therefore part recap and part continuation preview—not a new, self-contained story that reintroduces the whole series.
That structure matters more than the word “film” might suggest. The Shibuya material revisits events viewers already know, while the new episodes offer a reason to look ahead. Russell describes the recap as compressed and intense, and judges it a poor complete entry point for newcomers but an effective teaser. That is one critic’s assessment, rather than a measure of wider audience consensus.
Does JJK Execution fix the Season 2 fight?
There is not enough verified information to answer that as a factual version comparison. The headline does not identify which fight it means, and the cited coverage does not provide a shot-by-shot comparison of the original broadcast, any later version, and the film. A claim that the film fixes—or fails to fix—a specific sequence would need to name the fight and establish what differs between those versions.

What can be assessed from the available reporting is the film’s general approach to Shibuya: it selects and compresses moments from the arc. That is different from evidence of a repair to a particular fight. Treat “doesn’t fix” as the review’s thesis unless a clearly identified sequence and direct version comparison support it.
What does the compressed recap gain and lose?
A theatrical summary can restore the arc’s broad momentum without reproducing the work the series does between major confrontations. In Shibuya, a viewer’s understanding of a fight depends not only on movement and impact but also on who is present, what each person knows, what has changed since the last encounter, and why the outcome matters. A recap has less room to preserve those transitions and the pauses that make consequences land.

Compression can also make a sequence feel more forceful by moving quickly from one major moment to the next. The trade-off is reduced context and less room for tactical developments to unfold. Russell’s description of the recap as intense captures that compressed effect, but it does not establish that every fight becomes clearer or that the film changes the underlying animation.
Do you need to watch Season 2 first?
For the film to work as more than a string of familiar highlights, yes: watch Season 2 first, especially its Shibuya Incident material. Season 2 ran from July 6 to December 28, 2023, and covered both Hidden Inventory / Premature Death and Shibuya Incident, according to Crunchyroll’s December 28, 2023 report.

Without that background, the recap expects knowledge the film does not have time to rebuild. Even a viewer who understands the broad premise may miss the relationships, turning points, and motivations that give the Shibuya events their weight. The new continuation material may still provide a glimpse of what comes next, but the recap is not a comprehensive substitute for the season.
How much are the new episodes worth?
The first two Season 3 episodes are the film’s clearest forward-looking value: they move beyond recap and give existing viewers a preview of the next stretch of the story. Whether that material alone justifies a trip to the cinema depends on how much you value an early continuation preview; the cited review establishes their inclusion but does not support a more detailed scene-by-scene evaluation.

For a viewer already caught up, the mix can make the event feel like a bridge between arcs rather than a feature with a wholly new dramatic shape. For someone hoping to watch only one film and get the full Shibuya experience, the recap and continuation are not equivalent to watching the season.

Watch it if you have completed Season 2 and want a brisk refresher before moving into Season 3, or if seeing the first two continuation episodes in a theatrical package is part of the appeal. Skip it as your first Jujutsu Kaisen experience, and do not choose it as a replacement for Shibuya if you want the arc’s full pacing and context.

Season 2’s production context should not be mistaken for evidence about the disputed fight. In an official interview, director Shota Goshozono discusses his creative focus on Hidden Inventory / Premature Death, while animation producer Keisuke Seshimo talks about character appeal and visual choices such as drawing, color, and lighting. Those comments provide staff context for Season 2, but do not establish the intent or production circumstances of a particular Shibuya fight. Crunchyroll’s Season 2 spotlight praises the animation and describes its Shibuya fights in energetic terms; that, too, is an editorial assessment rather than an objective measure.
Viewers interested in staff and cast commentary can consult the official Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 guidebook information. The anime site lists the Japanese guidebook as released October 4, 2024, with 204 B5-format pages of episode explanations, character and setting materials, interviews, and creator comments and illustrations. Its listed ¥1,980 price is historical and specific to Japan; current price and availability may differ.
