The game-day spot introduced the team-up; the much-discussed avalanche of returning characters came in the feature film, released months later—not in the trailer itself.
What the Super Bowl trailer actually showed
Disney’s UK announcement identifies the Super Bowl as the debut of the film’s first trailer and links to the spot: Marvel Studios’ trailer announcement. The UK release date listed there was July 25, 2024; the Associated Press reported the U.S. opening as July 26, 2024. Those dates refer to different markets.

The trailer’s role was to introduce the reunion of Ryan Reynolds’s Wade Wilson, also known as Deadpool, and Hugh Jackman’s Logan, or Wolverine. The cameo conversation grew around the later feature, which brought characters from earlier Marvel-related film worlds into the story. The Super Bowl spot should not be mistaken for a preview containing the movie’s full roster of returns.
Why the trailer made such a splash
The Associated Press reported that the trailer was viewed 365 million times online in its first 24 hours, a first-day figure—not a current lifetime total. AP placed the film in the context of Deadpool and Wolverine’s earlier histories under 21st Century Fox and described the movie as bringing the characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Associated Press coverage.

- Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake yet. His days as Deadpool behind him, a listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. But when his homeworld is threatened, he reluctantly suits up as he tries to convince Wolverine? oh hell, just watch. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
Spoilers: the feature film’s cameo avalanche
The following appearances concern the released feature film, not the Super Bowl trailer. TIME’s spoiler-marked guide describes a cross-era reunion involving characters and variants from the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and other Marvel film worlds. Its representative returns include:
- Chris Evans as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch
- Jennifer Garner as Elektra
- Wesley Snipes as Blade
- Channing Tatum as Gambit
- Dafne Keen as X-23
- Blake Lively as Lady Deadpool
- Ray Park as Toad, Kelly Hu as Lady Deathstrike, Aaron Stanford as Pyro, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus, and Tyler Mane as Sabretooth
- Henry Cavill as a Wolverine variant
TIME also discusses a version of Hulk, but its identification of the brief appearance is speculative, so it should not be treated as confirmed. For a fuller spoiler-marked account of the film’s returns and variants, see TIME’s cameo guide.

How the story makes the reunion possible
The film uses the Void as its narrative setting for encounters with characters banished there. TIME describes this device as bringing together familiar faces, including figures associated with standalone films that were abandoned or never made. It is the feature’s story framework for the crossover—not something established by the Super Bowl trailer.
Who made the film
Director Shawn Levy led a principal cast that included Reynolds, Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen, according to Disney’s announcement. The press kit credits Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, and Levy as writers. Producers included Kevin Feige, Reynolds, Levy, and Lauren Shuler Donner; the credits are listed in Disney’s press kit.

Home-video extras revisit three major returns
TheWrap reported physical releases in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD, and described an official bonus feature focused on Garner, Snipes, and Tatum discussing their returns as Elektra, Blade, and Gambit. TheWrap quoted Reynolds on Snipes’s impact: “Wesley ushered in a whole era and took risks back then that hadn’t been done. This is a character in large part that Wesley created.” The quotation appeared in TheWrap’s September 26, 2024 report on the bonus feature: TheWrap’s home-video report.
