According to the Associated Press, Rosselló said José Menendez drugged and raped him when Rosselló was a teenager in the 1980s. AP also reported that the series included a former Menudo member saying Menendez raped him when he was 14. AP reported that Menudo was signed to RCA Records, which José Menendez headed at the time. That connection supplies context for why Rosselló’s account is part of a documentary about the Menendez case; it is not, by itself, proof of the allegation or of the brothers’ claims about their parents.
How Rosselló’s account became part of the legal effort
AP reported that Rosselló appeared in the documentary and gave a signed declaration to the brothers’ lawyers. The declaration was included in a habeas petition filed in May 2023; AP described it as the final evidence needed for that petition. The filing’s inclusion of a declaration is a legal development, not a court’s acceptance of the allegation as fact or a ruling that the brothers should be released.

How this relates to the brothers’ trials
AP’s account of the trial history says the first trial began in 1993, with separate juries. The defense did not dispute that the brothers killed their parents, but argued that they acted in self-defense after years of emotional and sexual abuse. Rosselló’s reported allegation concerns José Menendez and may bear on the broader discussion of abuse raised by the defense.
