Its announced premise pairs Bruce Wayne with his son Damian Wayne, whom Bruce did not know existed for the first eight to ten years of the boy’s life. As of the latest reports cited here, Christina Hodson was reported as screenwriter, Andy Muschietti remained attached to direct, and James Gunn said the project was not on hold. No cast or release date has been confirmed in the sources available.
What is The Brave and the Bold?
The Brave and the Bold is a planned live-action DC Studios movie and part of the interconnected DCU. DC announced it on January 31, 2023, describing it as the introduction of that universe’s Batman. The studio also cautioned that its announced slate was flexible and projects would not move into production until their scripts were right. DC’s announcement
What is the story about?
The announced story centers on Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne, Batman’s biological son. DC said Bruce did not know Damian existed during the first eight to ten years of Damian’s life, and that Damian had been raised as an assassin. Peter Safran also said the film would feature members of the extended Bat-Family.
DC identified Grant Morrison’s Batman comics as the inspiration. TheWrap likewise described the project as based on Morrison’s Batman run. Those details establish the broad father-and-son premise and comic influence, but not a full plot: no villain, scene-by-scene adaptation, or final title treatment has been established in the cited sources. Is the movie on hold?
On August 27, 2026, GamesRadar reported James Gunn’s response to rumors that the project had been paused: “It doesn’t sound like something Andy would have said but the project is in no way on hold.” His comment addresses the pause rumor, but does not provide a production start date or a release date. When does The Brave and the Bold come out?

Is this the same Batman as Robert Pattinson’s?
No. The Brave and the Bold is intended to introduce the DCU’s Batman. In DC’s 2023 announcement, James Gunn explicitly distinguished this Batman from Robert Pattinson’s and Ben Affleck’s versions, and from Matt Reeves’s The Batman sequel. TheWrap also describes the DCU Batman and Bat-Family as separate from Pattinson’s version.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What comics inspired the movie?
DC named Grant Morrison’s Batman run as an inspiration, a useful starting point for readers interested in the comics behind the father-and-son premise. A collected edition such as Batman by Grant Morrison Omnibus is source material to explore, not a film tie-in. The announced inspiration does not mean the movie will adapt the run panel for panel.
