Jayce’s disorientation is tied to a supernatural anomaly beneath the Hexgates that distorts reality. The story does not establish that he is mentally ill, and Netflix’s production feature offers no clinical diagnosis. It connects the anomaly to the Hexcore and, later, to Viktor’s cosmic mental link.
What happened to Jayce beneath the Hexgates?
In season two, episode three, Jayce, Ekko, and Heimerdinger discover Viktor’s anomaly beneath the Hexgates. Their reality is distorted during the encounter, according to Netflix Tudum’s production deep dive, published November 25, 2024. The event is presented as an arcane phenomenon, not simply as Jayce imagining things.
Fortiche art director Julien Georgel describes the sphere as a “raw and unstable expression of the arcane.” Its shape and colors resemble the Hexcore, linking the anomaly to the technology and forces already central to the story. Netflix Tudum’s season two production feature says the anomaly appears to be a source of energy slowly corrupting the universe; Hextech is connected to it, and Hextech weapons are affected by its instability.
Why does Jayce experience a different reality?
The clearest supported explanation is that Jayce is caught up in the anomaly’s reality distortion. The official production account confirms that broad connection, but does not spell out every mechanism or step in the chronology of his experience. More exact explanations of how his apparent displacement works should therefore be treated as interpretation of the show, not as mechanics confirmed by the production feature.

How does Viktor connect to Jayce’s experience?
In the finale, Viktor’s Glorious Evolution extends a cosmic mental link beyond his followers to people involved in the Hexgate showdown, including Jayce. That establishes a further supernatural connection between Viktor and Jayce, but the production feature does not present a complete account of how the link relates to every earlier part of Jayce’s experience.

Not in the sense of a confirmed mental-health diagnosis. The available official explanation describes arcane instability, distorted reality, and Viktor’s cosmic mental link. It does not label Jayce mentally ill. Calling the experience “losing his mind” may capture how bewildering it looks, but it should not be mistaken for a diagnosis or a definitive explanation of the plot’s mechanics.
