But there is an important distinction behind the headline: Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy are documented discussing the film’s “Iconic Final Battle,” not declaring any scene its objectively best fight.
Which fight does “best fight scene” mean?
There are several distinct sequences that can be meant. TIME identifies the first confrontation between Deadpool and Wolverine in the Void as the long-awaited fight the film has been building toward. Separately, a Screen Rant Plus video listing documents Reynolds and Levy breaking down the film’s “Iconic Final Battle.” The listing does not say they rank it as the best scene. TIME’s explanation of Wolverine’s fights with Deadpool and Sabertooth and the Screen Rant Plus breakdown listing point to different moments, so they should not be treated as one fight.

For a scene-focused explanation of the matchup, the first Void confrontation is the clearest choice. “Best” is an editorial judgment here, not a documented verdict from Reynolds or Levy.
Why the first Void fight works
Two opposing energies
The scene’s appeal comes from its contrast. Deadpool approaches the fight with irreverence and self-awareness; Wolverine brings anger and physical seriousness. Their opposing attitudes give the confrontation its character as well as its action. The humor does not erase Wolverine’s intensity, and Wolverine’s intensity gives Deadpool something forceful to push against.

- Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake yet. His days as Deadpool behind him, a listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. But when his homeworld is threatened, he reluctantly suits up as he tries to convince Wolverine? oh hell, just watch. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
It is more than a matchup of abilities
The confrontation is compelling because the characters seem to be in different emotional registers. Deadpool treats the violence as something he can puncture with jokes, while Wolverine’s anger makes the encounter feel consequential. That tension helps explain why their first clash feels like a payoff rather than just another fight.
What Reynolds and Levy are documented discussing
Reynolds and Levy are both credited writers on the film, and Levy directed it. The available Screen Rant Plus listing identifies their video as a breakdown of the “Iconic Final Battle.” It establishes that the two discuss that battle; it does not establish that they call it the film’s best fight or that their comments concern the first Void confrontation. Disney UK’s film press kit provides the writing-credit context.

Why the opening fight is a separate case
The opening sequence is another fight, distinct from both the first Void clash and the final battle. In a production interview, the Motion Picture Association connects the opening fight to *NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye.” Sound designer Ryan Cole describes the sequence this way: “It plays more like a music video.” That is Cole’s comment about the opening sequence, not a statement by Reynolds or Levy about which fight is best. The Motion Picture Association’s production interview discusses the sequence and its sound.
