Why there is no season 2
TVLine reported on March 29, 2024, that Hulu had cancelled Death and Other Details after one season. The reviewed coverage does not state Hulu’s reason. There is no substantiated basis here to attribute the decision to ratings, reviews, cost, or audience behavior.

Hulu’s official series page lists one season with 10 episodes: Death and Other Details on Hulu. That listing is for the existing season, not a renewal announcement. Streaming availability can vary by territory and change over time.
What season 2 might have explored
Before the cancellation, co-showrunners Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams discussed possible directions for a continuation in a March 5, 2024 interview with TheWrap. They described a potential story in which Imogene, Leila, Teddy, and Jules investigated additional crimes. Weiss also floated a Sherlock Holmes-inspired approach: Imogene as a Baker Street-style detective, with Anna as her Moriarty. These were hypothetical ideas, not evidence that Hulu ordered a second season or that production began.

The season 1 finale revealed that Viktor Sams was Imogene’s mother, Kira, and introduced another mystery involving a severed leg. That ending left story threads available for continuation, but the creators’ earlier comments do not change the series’ cancelled status. In the same interview, Weiss reflected on the finale’s use of social media evidence: “The fact that, in the end, the entire plot gets unraveled by basically B-roll from a TikTok post, that’s something that couldn’t happen in an Agatha Christie story.”
What the series was about
Hulu describes Death and Other Details as a locked-room murder mystery aboard a lavishly restored Mediterranean ocean liner. Imogene Scott, played by Violett Beane, becomes a prime suspect and has to work with detective Rufus Cotesworth, played by Mandy Patinkin. Hulu classifies the series as drama, thriller, crime, and mystery.

Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams served as writers, executive producers, and showrunners. ABC Signature produced the series. The ensemble also includes Lauren Patten, Rahul Kohli, Angela Zhou, Hugo Diego Garcia, Pardis Saremi, and Linda Emond.
