Is Dark Winds Season 4 confirmed, and when did it come out?
Yes. AMC announced the renewal on February 24, 2025, first describing Season 4 as an eight-episode season expected in 2026. AMC later set the premiere for Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC and AMC+. Episodes aired weekly. Netflix Tudum reported on July 4, 2026, that the season was streaming. What is Season 4 about?
Leaphorn, Chee and Manuelito investigate the disappearance of a Navajo girl. Netflix Tudum’s synopsis says the teenager ran away from a Catholic boarding school. The search takes the investigators beyond the Navajo Nation to 1970s Los Angeles, where they encounter an obsessive killer connected to organized crime.

Who makes the series?
Dark Winds was created by Graham Roland, with John Wirth as showrunner, and is based on Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn & Chee novels. Season 4 also marks Zahn McClarnon’s television directorial debut, according to AMC. Viewers interested in the source material can explore Hillerman’s novels as further reading; the television adaptation should not be assumed to reproduce the books exactly. Will there be a Season 5?
Yes. AMC renewed Dark Winds for an eight-episode fifth season on February 5, 2026, and said it was planned for 2027, with filming set to begin in Santa Fe in March 2026. The announcement did not give an exact premiere date, so 2027 is a planned window rather than a confirmed day of release. AMC’s update is at AMC Networks’ Season 5 announcement.
