The Jester 2 — September 15 and 16 event screenings
The Jester 2 had a nationwide, two-night Fathom Entertainment theatrical event on September 15 and 16, 2025, with a behind-the-scenes featurette. The announcement describes teen magician Max’s supernatural confrontation with the Jester. This was a dated event engagement, not a month-long wide release. Director Colin Krawchuk said, “I’m so grateful to Fathom for having faith in our project by releasing it nationwide. This is a hugely exciting moment for us and for The Jester and will hopefully allow a larger audience to get to know him in theaters.” Fathom Entertainment announcement.
Other genre releases across the month
- September 12 — The Long Walk: Stephen King adaptation centered on a march across a dystopian America.
- September 19 — Him: A football-and-horror thriller produced by Jordan Peele.
- September 26 — The Strangers: Chapter 2: The second chapter of a new horror trilogy.
Which September releases were sequels or comedy follow-ups?
The month’s follow-ups were not limited to horror. The AP guide identified Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale as the third film in the Crawley family saga and described it as supposedly final; Spinal Tap: The End Continues follows the 1984 mockumentary. Comedy-adjacent choices included The Baltimorons, Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie and Adulthood. Their descriptions point to distinct kinds of comedy: an emergency-dentist Christmas Eve story, a cult series’ move to film, and siblings dealing with a corpse.
What new movies were streaming in September 2025?
The slate included streaming premieres as well as theatrical releases. Lost in the Jungle arrived on Disney+/Hulu on September 13, while Hulu listed Swiped for September 19 and Apple TV+ listed All of You for September 26. Two films had theatrical dates before their listed streaming premieres: The Lost Bus and Steve opened in theaters September 19 and were scheduled to stream October 3, on Apple TV+ and Netflix respectively. These are the routes and dates in the AP guide; it does not establish availability in every territory.

- Check the route: A theatrical opening, a two-night event, and a streaming premiere are different kinds of release. The Jester 2’s September 15–16 engagement, for example, was explicitly an event.
- Check the geography: The Conjuring official site specified North America for September 5 and said its international rollout began September 3; do not assume that pattern applies to other films.
- Check whether a theatrical date is followed by streaming: The guide gave October 3 streaming dates for The Lost Bus and Steve, rather than September streaming premieres.
- Choose by premise and follow-up status, not a supposed ranking: This calendar provides dates and descriptions, not a month-wide quality or attendance comparison.
The Associated Press guide and the two official announcements cited here do not provide a month-wide attendance or box-office statistic for these releases.
