A hospital collapse turns that conflict into a private medical crisis, while a protest sends patients to Grey Sloan and leaves several doctors facing consequential personal choices.
What happens with Catherine, Meredith and the fired doctors?
Catherine’s decision to fire several Grey Sloan doctors continues to unsettle the hospital. She is also still interfering with Meredith Grey and Amelia Shepherd’s research. Miranda Bailey confronts Catherine about the firings and her treatment of the interns. Their opening clash puts two ideas of medicine in opposition: Bailey calls the profession “a calling — not a business,” while Catherine warns, “I can have all of you replaced by tomorrow.” ABC News’ preview of the scene attributes those lines to the characters, played by Chandra Wilson and Debbie Allen.

Jackson Avery arrives and urges Meredith to resolve the dispute. As she is about to try to make peace with Catherine, Catherine collapses. Meredith finds a tumor on Catherine’s spine. Catherine wants the diagnosis kept from her husband and son, and says she does not want invasive treatment.
The episode does not disclose the exact bargain Meredith and Catherine strike. The doctors fired alongside Meredith are rehired, but Catherine says the Alzheimer’s research “will go in a different direction.” The show leaves the terms of that change unresolved. TVLine’s recap likewise notes that the precise deal is not revealed.

Where does Bailey’s leadership story stand?
Bailey imagines slapping Catherine, but the confrontation is a dream, not an actual assault. In reality, Bailey is working at the clinic while Ben considers continuing his surgical residency at Seattle Pres. Sydney Heron, now the residency director in Bailey’s place, arrives at Grey Sloan. By the end of the episode, Bailey tells Ben to apply to Grey Sloan because she expects to get her job back.
What do the protest cases change for the other doctors?
Accidents at a climate-change protest bring unusual emergencies into the hospital and connect several character stories:
