The Christmas drama is Everybody’s Fine (2009), with Robert De Niro as Frank Goode, a widower who sets out to see his adult children after they cancel their holiday visits. De Niro’s quietly affecting lead performance is the film’s strongest point, even if the story’s familiar holiday-drama conventions make the “underrated” label a matter of taste. Netflix availability depends on country: its US and UK title pages currently say the film is unavailable there.
What is the Christmas drama with Robert De Niro?
It is Everybody’s Fine, a 2009 family drama directed by Kirk Jones. De Niro plays Frank Goode, a retired widower whose children cancel their planned holiday visits. Rather than accept the distance between them, Frank travels across the country to reconnect with them. Netflix’s synopsis emphasizes the journey; Miramax specifically frames the canceled visits as holiday visits.
The supporting cast includes Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale, Sam Rockwell, and Melissa Leo. The story uses Christmas as its starting point, but its main concern is the complicated relationship between a father and his grown children: what Frank hopes to find, what they are willing to tell him, and how family members can misunderstand one another even when they care.
Why De Niro’s performance stands out
The case for calling the performance underrated is an interpretation, not a settled critical verdict. Rotten Tomatoes’ critics’ consensus describes De Niro as “calm” and “charismatic,” while judging the film itself conventional as a Christmas dramedy. That contrast points to the film’s clearest strength: De Niro gives Frank a restrained presence that suits a character trying to cross emotional distances as well as miles.

Frank’s journey gives the actor room to carry scenes through attention and reaction rather than constant dramatic display. The performance can feel more nuanced than the familiar holiday-family framework around it. That does not make the film an undiscovered classic; it makes De Niro’s work a reasonable reason to revisit a drama that may otherwise sound like a conventional seasonal story.
Is Everybody’s Fine really new to Netflix?
Not in every country, and not according to the US and UK Netflix pages checked for this article. Both identify the film but report it as unavailable in those territories. A secondary US catalogue-history page reports that it streamed on US Netflix from November 15, 2025, through February 15, 2026. That history does not establish a new October 2026 arrival, nor does it confirm availability in another country.

- Director and writing credits: Kirk Jones directed and is listed as a writer. Miramax also credits Giuseppe Tornatore, Tonino Guerra, and Massimo De Rita as writers.
- Awards note: Miramax lists a 2010 Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song. It was not an acting nomination for De Niro.
