Is there a fixed pattern of Adele disappearing after every album?

The documented studio-album sequence is 19 (2008), 21, 25, and 30 (2021). ELLE described the time before 30 as a six-year hiatus. The important distinction is between a public gap and a single explanation: Adele has discussed different pressures and decisions in particular moments, not a universal rule for when she makes or releases music. Family life and the demands of promotion
During the 25 era in 2015, Adele said the demanding promotional schedule was difficult to manage with a young child. She also said her son helped keep her calm. In the same period, she criticized lengthy album campaigns for wearing out audience interest before an album was even released. TIME’s 2015 coverage reported that 25 sold 3.38 million copies in the United States in its first week—a measure of the scale of that album cycle, not proof of why she later took breaks.

A show that did not feel right
Adele’s original Las Vegas show was a specific artistic decision, not evidence that she had given up music. She said the planned production felt disconnected from her and her band and lacked intimacy; discussing the canceled show with ELLE in 2022, she said, “There was just no soul in it.” Her manager, Jonathan Dickins, explained that performing a show she was unhappy with would have felt like a lie to fans. That rationale concerns the production she canceled, not every gap between albums.
The distinction matters: rejecting a particular staging can mean protecting the connection an artist wants with the band and audience, rather than withdrawing from creative work altogether. Adele said the cancellation was devastating while also saying she knew the decision was right.

Energy depleted by performing every weekend
In July 2024, after years of Las Vegas performances and before her planned Munich shows, Adele spoke plainly about exhaustion. The Guardian reported her ZDF interview this way: “My tank is quite empty from being on stage every weekend in Las Vegas. I don’t have any plans for new music, at all.” She also said, “I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things just for a little while,” as reported by the Los Angeles Times. Those are statements about her intentions and energy at that time, not a prediction of when an album will arrive.
How did the Las Vegas residency fit into her family life?
A residency is not the same schedule as a conventional tour. At her final Las Vegas performance in November 2024, Adele said the arrangement let her spend weekends with her son and keep his life normal. The Los Angeles Times described that closing performance as the residency’s 100th show. This helps explain how she balanced a substantial live commitment with time at home; it does not establish that a residency is universally easier than touring.

At that final show, she said, “I don’t know when I next want to perform again,” while also reassuring fans she would be back. She gave no date for a return to performing or a new album. The remark is evidence of uncertainty about when she wanted to perform again in November 2024, not a dated promise about future releases. The Los Angeles Times reported her closing-show comments.

The best-supported explanation is therefore a combination, not a secret: family life and control over the demands of public promotion have mattered; she has rejected a production that did not meet her artistic needs; and sustained weekend performances left her depleted in 2024. What remains unknown is how those factors will shape the timing or form of her next release.
