#1 Best Overall
Yellow — POULTRY CUTS
BREAST, TENDER, THIGH, WING
Green — HANDLE, AS A BILL
FOOT, PAY, SETTLE, TAKE CARE OF
FOOT fits the idiom “foot the bill.” The other entries are also ways to describe paying or settling a bill.
Blue — SPLENDID
BRILLIANT, CAPITAL, FINE, GRAND
Purple — STARTS OF CULINARY NUTS
CASH, HAZE, MAC, PEC
These are the opening portions of cashew, hazelnut, macadamia and pecan. The entries are not complete nut names, which makes this group easier to miss.

The grid’s misdirection comes from familiar words that can plausibly point in more than one direction. TENDER, for example, can evoke a chicken tender, while CASH and PAY suggest money; the green group is about actions or phrases for handling a bill, not simply words associated with money. For purple, expand each short entry into a nut name rather than looking for four whole food words.
