Spoilers for Thunderbolts* (2025), including both credits scenes. Bob’s crisis ends not with a simple defeat of the Void, but with Yelena and the team helping him reconnect with other people. Afterward, Valentina brands the group the New Avengers. The final credits scene then reveals a ship bearing the Fantastic Four insignia—a significant crossover tease, but not an on-screen appearance by a Fantastic Four character.
What happens to Bob at the end of Thunderbolts*?
Bob Reynolds (Lewis Pullman) is the subject of Valentina’s super-soldier experiment. He becomes the Sentry, but his powers are bound up with the Void, which traps people in scenes shaped by their worst memories. As the threat spreads through New York, Yelena leads the effort to reach Bob and help free the people caught in it. The Los Angeles Times’ ending breakdown describes the film’s resolution.
Bob is not rescued simply because someone overpowers the Void. Yelena and the others help him face what is happening and reconnect with people rather than retreating into isolation. That is a thematic reading, not a clinical diagnosis of Bob or a claim that the film offers mental-health guidance. Director Jake Schreier framed the choice in a D23 interview published May 2, 2025: “Do you retreat into yourself, or do you find connection in others and move forward through that?”
The ending does not establish that Bob has permanently eliminated the Void. He remains afraid to use his powers because it could return, leaving his recovery emotionally meaningful but not a guarantee that the danger is over.

Why do the Thunderbolts become the New Avengers?
After the team’s public rescue, Valentina presents them as the New Avengers. The announcement gives the group a new public identity, but the credits scenes show that the name brings complications as well as attention. The mid-credits scene plays the rebrand for comedy: Red Guardian celebrates seeing New Avengers branding on a cereal box. TIME’s ending explainer covers the credits-scene sequence.
The later scene makes the naming issue more consequential. Fourteen months after the main story, the team discusses a dispute with Sam Wilson over their use of “Avengers.” The movie leaves that conflict unresolved while shifting attention to a new arrival.

What is the shocking cameo in the final credits scene?
The final scene reveals an extradimensional ship, and Yelena’s satellite view shows the Fantastic Four insignia on it. The reveal points toward a connection between the Fantastic Four and the New Avengers’ world, but the film shows a vessel—not a Fantastic Four character appearing in person. Calling it a “cameo” is therefore shorthand for the franchise’s arrival in the story, rather than a literal character cameo. The Los Angeles Times and TIME describe the ship reveal.
The scene does not explain why the ship is there or what its arrival means for the characters. A future crossover is suggested; its specific plot and consequences are not confirmed by the film’s ending.
