The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep has the ingredients of a classic Witcher case: a village under threat, a monster investigation, and a conflict that may be more complicated than it first appears. Netflix’s premise puts Geralt between humans and merpeople, with war at stake. The film is also a 92-minute animated side story tied to the first season of the live-action series, and an adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s “A Little Sacrifice.”
What is Sirens of the Deep about?
Geralt investigates attacks in a seaside village and is pulled into a centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople. Netflix’s official synopsis presents the threat as more than a straightforward hunt: the dispute could escalate into war. The setup places the film in familiar Witcher territory, where identifying a monster and deciding what to do about it are not necessarily the same problem.

That premise gives the story two connected questions to work with: what is behind the attacks, and what happens when rival communities interpret the same danger differently? The official description establishes that investigative and political frame, but it does not reveal the film’s scene-by-scene execution.
How does it connect to The Witcher series?
Netflix places the animated film between episodes 5 and 6 of The Witcher season 1. That makes it a side story in the chronology of the first season rather than a new season or a direct continuation of the later live-action plot. It can be approached as a self-contained monster-hunting adventure, while viewers following the series timeline can slot it into that point.

The format and scale differ from the live-action episodes: Sirens of the Deep is animated and runs 1 hour 32 minutes on Netflix’s US title listing. Its returning voices include Doug Cockle as Geralt, Joey Batey as Jaskier, and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer.
What story is the film adapting?
The film is based specifically on Andrzej Sapkowski’s short story “A Little Sacrifice,” which appears in the collection Sword of Destiny. Netflix identifies the connection, but that does not mean the film reproduces the story unchanged. A useful comparison is to ask what it keeps from the source, what it alters for the screen, and what it chooses to emphasize in the conflict between humans and merpeople.

Who made the film?
Kang Hei Chul directed Sirens of the Deep, with Studio MIR credited as its animation studio. Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin are credited as writers; Lauren Schmidt Hissrich as producer; and Sapkowski as creative consultant. The Netflix credits name Christina Wren as Essi Daven alongside the returning series voices.

Cockle returns as Geralt. In Netflix’s February 11, 2025 feature, he described the character’s return as a chance to battle “not only man and monsters, but also merpeople.” That is a promotional comment from the voice actor, rather than an independent assessment of the film.
Is it worth watching?
The premise is appealing if what you want is a contained Witcher investigation with folkloric stakes: a coastal setting, attacks to solve, and a human–merperson conflict that complicates the hunt. The short-story origin and season-one placement also give it two clear points of interest for viewers who follow the franchise beyond its central live-action episodes.

Those facts alone cannot settle whether the animation, pacing, characterization, dialogue, or adaptation choices work for an individual viewer. They are the aspects to judge directly if you are choosing between this film and another Witcher story. At 92 minutes on the US listing, it is a feature-length detour rather than a full season commitment.
