For existing owners, the decision turns on whether 13 previously unreleased tracks, new mixes and the physical format are worth buying the earlier material again. It is a substantial archival package, but the evidence does not establish that every listener will hear an improvement in the remastered albums.
What is in The Anthology Collection?
Released November 21, 2025, through Apple Corps Ltd., Capitol and UMe, the collection brings together Anthology 1, Anthology 2 and Anthology 3 with the new Anthology 4, for 191 tracks in total. The first three volumes were newly remastered by Giles Martin. The official announcement describes the set as a journey through Beatles recordings from 1958 to “Now And Then,” released in 2023. The Beatles’ release announcement and 8CD product page give the full release and edition details.
The original volumes draw on early recordings, demos, live performances, broadcasts and outtakes. Their track listings remain unchanged in this edition; the archival expansion is concentrated in the fourth volume. Mark Lewisohn’s notes and restored photographs accompany volumes 1–3, while Kevin Howlett wrote new notes for Anthology 4.
What is new on Anthology 4?
Anthology 4 adds 13 previously unreleased demos, session recordings and other rare tracks. It also includes “Now And Then” and Jeff Lynne’s 2025 mixes of “Free As A Bird” and “Real Love.” Those mixes are a meaningful reason to consider the set if you want updated versions of the reunion-era songs: MusicRadar’s launch coverage said “Free As A Bird” sounds clearer in its 2025 mix, but that observation is not a controlled audio comparison. MusicRadar’s coverage also notes that “Carnival of Light” remains absent.

The new volume is the set’s clearest draw for established owners, but it is not a wholly new album of unheard material. The official description says the 13 unreleased tracks sit alongside the named songs and mixes. Edition histories also matter: the official CD page identifies 17 Anthology 4 tracks previously unavailable on CD, while the LP page identifies 26 tracks that had not previously appeared on vinyl. These are format-specific availability counts, not competing totals for the number of unreleased tracks.
How do the CD and vinyl editions differ?
| Edition | Physical presentation | Anthology 4 format detail |
|---|---|---|
| 8CD | Four two-CD volumes in gatefold digisleeves, with a 40+ page booklet. | 17 tracks were previously unavailable on CD, according to the official 8CD product page. |
| 12LP | Four three-LP albums in triple gatefold sleeves and a slipcase; 180g black vinyl. | 26 tracks had not previously appeared on vinyl, according to the official 12LP product page. |
Both formats include the original three volumes and Anthology 4. The difference in prior-availability figures reflects the separate release histories of CD and vinyl, so neither number should be read as the total number of newly recorded or previously unheard tracks. See the official 8CD edition page and official 12LP page for the format descriptions.

Is it worth buying if you own the original Anthology albums?
If you own Anthology 1–3, you are paying for the new fourth volume and mixes while also repurchasing the earlier compilations. The remastering may interest you, but the available coverage does not establish a universal, independently tested improvement over the original releases. The strongest case is therefore personal: how much you want the added archival material, the new mixes, and the collected physical presentation.

- Consider it if you are missing the original volumes. The box gives you all four in one release, with new material and edition-specific packaging.
- Consider it if the new archive is the point. The 13 previously unreleased tracks and the 2025 mixes are the set’s central additions.
- Pause if you already own the first three. Decide whether those additions justify another full set rather than assuming the remaster alone makes replacement essential.
- Choose the format around how you listen. The CD edition is a compact four-volume package; the LP edition is a larger, heavier presentation that requires a turntable and more storage.
Critical opinion is not unanimous. Aftonbladet reviewer Markus Larsson rated the collection two out of five, describing it as another repackaging with little archival treasure and arguing that the documentary was more essential than the discs. That is one critic’s judgment, not a consensus or a substitute for deciding how much the material matters to you. Read Larsson’s Aftonbladet review.
