There is no verified public list ranking Taylor Swift’s seven closest male friends. The available reporting documents a few different relationships—friendships described at particular points in time, creative partnerships, and romantic relationships—but those are not interchangeable. Ed Sheeran and Jack Antonoff were called among Swift’s best friends in a 2014 report; Travis Kelce and Joe Alwyn have been described as her romantic partners, not as platonic friends.
Is there a verified list of Taylor Swift’s seven closest male friends?
No. The public sources reviewed do not establish a definitive seven-person list or a ranking from Swift herself. A photograph, dating rumor, or long-running work relationship is not enough to establish that someone is one of her closest friends.
The clearest historical friendship evidence names Ed Sheeran and Jack Antonoff. Other prominent men associated with Swift in the sources are identified as romantic partners, sometimes also with a creative connection. The distinctions matter: a partner should not be relabeled as a platonic friend, and a past friendship description does not prove present-day closeness.
What the sources say about the men linked to Swift
| Person | What the source establishes | Time period |
|---|---|---|
| Ed Sheeran | Named among people Swift called her best friends in an Entertainment Tonight report. Entertainment Tonight | 2014 |
| Jack Antonoff | Named among people Swift called her best friends in the same Entertainment Tonight report; later described by ELLE as a then-new friend in its coverage of the 1989-era prologue and their work together. Entertainment Tonight; ELLE | 2014 and the 1989 era |
| Travis Kelce | Associated Press coverage identifies him as Swift’s boyfriend and reports on their public appearances and joint New Heights interview. This documents a romantic relationship, not a platonic friendship ranking. Associated Press; Associated Press | Current-period coverage in the cited reporting |
| Joe Alwyn | In 2020 interview coverage, Swift called him her boyfriend and said he was among the small circle who knew she was making folklore. ELLE also reported his contribution to “betty.” This is historical evidence of a romantic and creative relationship, not a confirmed current friendship. ELLE | 2020 |
Ed Sheeran: a documented friendship label in 2014
Entertainment Tonight’s October 2014 report included Sheeran among people Swift called her best friends. That is direct evidence for how the relationship was described at that time, and the strongest source in the reviewed material for calling him a friend. It does not establish that he is currently among her closest friends, or where he would rank among men in her life.

Jack Antonoff: friend and frequent creative collaborator
The 2014 Entertainment Tonight report also named Antonoff among Swift’s best friends. ELLE later described him as a then-new friend when covering Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) prologue and the pair’s work together. Taken together, those accounts support describing him as a friend and collaborator; they do not substantiate a top-ranked closeness claim.
Why public sightings are a poor measure of friendship
Swift’s own account of the 1989 era helps explain why a visible friendship with a man may be difficult to assess from publicity. As reproduced in ELLE’s October 27, 2023 coverage of the prologue, she recalled that people treated being seen with a man as evidence of a sexual relationship: “If I was seen with him, it was assumed I was sleeping with him, and so I swore off hanging out with guys.” She wrote that she chose to focus on herself, her music, and female friendships.

That reflection is context for how scrutiny shaped her public behavior, not proof of any particular man’s status as a close friend. Vanity Fair’s 2015 profile likewise described an active, female-centered circle: Swift said, “My friends and I text every day,” and spoke about friends in New York and Los Angeles. That account does not identify a ranked group of male friends.

Travis Kelce
The Associated Press reports identify Kelce as Swift’s boyfriend and cover public appearances and a joint appearance on the New Heights podcast. Those reports establish a public romantic relationship. They do not establish that Kelce belongs on a list of platonic friends, so describing him as a “male friend” without qualification would blur the distinction.

Joe Alwyn
In 2020, Swift described Alwyn as her boyfriend and said the people involved in making folklore, her boyfriend, family, and management knew about the album. ELLE’s coverage also noted his contribution to “betty.” This documents trust and a creative connection within their relationship at that time; it does not verify a current friendship or a place on a closest-friends list.
