For a strong starting shortlist, try Fallout for science fiction, Reacher for action, The Boys for superhero satire, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for fantasy, or Fleabag and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for comedy with dramatic depth. For a movie night, consider Road House, The Idea of You, or Red One. These are recommendations across different tastes, not an objective ranking; check your local Prime Video catalog because availability varies by country and can change.
Amazon Prime Video original series worth considering
Amazon MGM Studios describes its original series as premiering exclusively on Prime Video and highlights several recent hits. The picks below span genres and tones rather than competing on a single score.
Fallout — science fiction with a post-apocalyptic setting
Choose Fallout for science fiction built around a ruined world and the people trying to survive it. It is a natural pick if you want a genre series rather than a realistic drama. Amazon includes it among its recent Prime Video hits (Amazon MGM Studios’ Prime Video overview).
Reacher — action thriller
Reacher suits viewers looking for a direct, action-led thriller. Amazon says Season 4 is based on Lee Child’s novel Gone Tomorrow; the book is optional context, not a prerequisite for following the show (Amazon’s Season 4 announcement).

Amazon reported 66 million global viewers for Season 4 in its first 28 days and more than 200 million viewers worldwide for the series since its 2022 debut. Those are Amazon-reported audience figures, not independent measures of quality.
The Boys — superhero satire
Pick The Boys if you want a deliberately irreverent take on superhero stories rather than a conventional heroic adventure. Amazon says the series is based on the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson; as with any adaptation, the show may differ from its source (Amazon’s series announcement).

Recognition offers one additional point of reference: Amazon’s 2025 Emmy coverage reports 24 nominations for Amazon MGM Studios and says The Boys led the Prime Video group with three Creative Arts Emmy wins and four total nominations. Awards recognition is not a universal verdict on what to watch.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power — fantasy
For an expansive fantasy setting, consider The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Its scale and genre make it a different kind of commitment from a single film or a compact comedy. Amazon lists it among its recent Prime Video series hits (Amazon MGM Studios’ Prime Video overview).

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel — period comedy
Choose The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for a period setting and comedy-drama tone. It offers a contrast to the action, fantasy, and science-fiction choices above, and Amazon also names it on its recommendations page (Amazon’s Prime Video recommendations).

Amazon Prime Video original movies to put on your list
These three films are useful starting points if you want a feature-length pick rather than a multi-season series. Amazon’s shareholder letter identifies them among Prime Video films; that establishes their place in the service’s film lineup, not a critical ranking.
- Road House: Consider it for a movie night when you want an action-oriented pick. Amazon said in a 2024 programming announcement that it had been watched by nearly 80 million viewers since its March 21 Prime Video premiere. That historical, Amazon-reported figure indicates reach at the time, not present-day popularity or artistic merit (Amazon’s 2024 programming announcement).
- The Idea of You: A film to consider if you want a romance-focused alternative to the action and genre titles. Amazon names it among its Prime Video films in its shareholder letter (Amazon’s shareholder letter).
- Red One: Another feature-length option in Amazon’s Prime Video film lineup, also named in the shareholder letter (Amazon’s shareholder letter).
How to choose what to watch
- Want a contained movie night? Start with Road House, The Idea of You, or Red One.
- Want action? Try Reacher; for a feature instead, consider Road House.
- Want speculative worlds? Pick Fallout for science fiction or The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for fantasy.
- Want comedy with a dramatic side? Choose Fleabag or The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
- Want a subversive superhero story? Try The Boys.
Check availability in your country
Amazon describes Prime Video as available in more than 240 countries and territories, but that service footprint does not mean every title is available everywhere. Catalogs and title availability can change, so check the listing in your local Prime Video app or website before planning a watch. Membership terms and access can also depend on location and the specific title.
