They were presented in a January 2025 PerthNow article, not as a measured ranking: the coverage provides no survey sample, methodology or prevalence statistics to show how common any trend was.
What the five trends were
PerthNow’s Morgan de Smidt summarized the forecasts on January 21, 2025, drawing on comments from Lovehoney Group sexologist and head of user research Elizabeth Neumann, as well as sex expert Cam Fraser. The five themes describe directions the experts expected people to explore—not proof that those changes occurred across the population.
1. Sex as a political statement
The first forecast connected sexual choices with bodily autonomy and resistance to restrictive norms. PerthNow cited #boysober, described in its article as abstaining from sex-affective relationships, and the 4B movement, whose principles it summarized as “No sex. No dating. No marriage. No children.” These descriptions belong to the source’s account; they should not be taken to represent all women or all people.
2. Exploring erogenous zones
The second forecast was a broader approach to sensation than focusing only on genitals. The article described experimenting with textures, temperature and different kinds of pressure, including attention to areas such as the neck, inner thighs and earlobes. It linked this exploration to sensation play.

3. More fluid relationships and identity
The forecast anticipated more exploration of consensual alternatives to monogamy, such as open relationships and polyamory, alongside less pressure to adopt a fixed label for sexual preferences or orientation. The article offered this as an expectation, not a quantified change in relationship behavior.
4. A more holistic view of pleasure
This theme treated sexual well-being as connected to mental health, self-care and emotional connection, as well as physical intimacy. The coverage said experts expected greater attention to therapy, sex education, counselling and communal gatherings.
5. Sober sex
Sober sex means choosing not to drink alcohol or use other substances before sex, with the aim of being more present. Fraser said some of his male clients were reducing alcohol use because they believed it affected their sex lives and sexual functioning, and choosing not to drink when they expected to be sexual—whether with a long-term partner or while hoping to meet someone casually.
How to read the predictions
Neumann described the themes as reflecting “a fascinating convergence of increased self-awareness, political discourse and shifting societal norms around sex, pleasure and identity.” She also said people were embracing “diverse, intentional approaches to pleasure and sexuality.” Those remarks explain the report’s framing, but they do not establish how widespread any one behavior was.

Exploring sensation does not require a particular product. Partners can communicate about comfort and preferences while trying non-genital touch, different textures or gentle changes in temperature and pressure. A personal massager or vibrator is one optional category of aid, not a requirement or evidence that the forecast came true. Lovehoney Group’s October 2025 We-Vibe portfolio includes products for clitoral and erogenous-zone stimulation, but that product listing does not validate the trend or establish the availability of a specific retailer listing.
