There is no single set of casting and filming rules for every version of The Traitors. Requirements vary by country and season. The public documents reviewed here describe selection checks, eligibility and travel requirements, assessments, information applicants may need to disclose, and production’s authority to set programme rules. They do not provide a complete handbook for day-to-day filming. A call, audition or shortlist is not a guarantee of a place.
What are the rules for applying to The Traitors?
It depends on the edition and casting cycle. The clearest examples available are Studio Lambert’s terms for UK Series 3 and its US-version application terms, alongside Peacock’s summary of the 2026 US civilian casting cycle. These are not interchangeable: the UK terms concern a specific series, while Peacock’s eligibility details concern a US civilian cycle whose deadline has passed. Celebrity casting should not be assumed to follow the civilian application rules.
Across these documents, applicants may be asked to verify identity and eligibility, attend interviews or other selection stages, provide background and health information, and undergo assessments or checks if production requests them. Requirements in a particular application form or later contributor agreement may differ.
UK Series 3: selection and screening
Studio Lambert’s UK Series 3 application terms, dated 31 October 2023, say the production may not acknowledge every application and will contact applicants it wants to progress. Applicants invited to selection may be asked to provide original proof of age, identity and the right to reside legally in the UK. They may also need to attend selection at agreed times and locations, or remotely. Read the UK Series 3 application terms.

Assessments and records production may request
If required, a qualified practitioner may conduct a medical and/or psychological assessment. The terms say findings may be shared with production and authorized parties. Production may also request a criminal-record check, a GP letter or medical records, and health information through a questionnaire.
The terms allow production to ask for relevant background information about family, employment, physical or mental health, social media, allegations, investigations, proceedings or past conduct that could attract publicity. They say disclosure alone does not automatically disqualify an applicant. Applicants are expected to answer accurately and keep production informed of relevant changes.

An audition is not a casting promise
Selection is at production’s discretion, and the document states no appeal process. It explicitly says that applying, receiving correspondence, attending an interview or audition, being shortlisted, or taking part in a recording day does not automatically mean the applicant will appear on the programme. In the terms’ words, “attending an audition/interview; being shortlisted and/or taking part in any recording day and/or any part of the casting process DOES NOT automatically mean that you will be taking part in the Programme.”
US civilian casting: the 2026 cycle
Peacock’s article about the 2026 US civilian edition said applicants had to be US citizens or hold a visa valid for travel to and from the UK and US, be at least 21 on April 1, 2026, have a valid passport, and not be seeking public office. The stated application deadline was March 10, 2026, which has passed. These are historical requirements for that cycle, not evidence that applications are currently open or that the same rules apply to later seasons. Peacock’s 2026 civilian casting article.

The article reproduced the application’s video prompt: “Please upload a short video telling us anything interesting about yourself and why you want to be on The Traitors. Would you rather be a Faithful or a Traitor and why? What would your game plan be?” That wording applies to the US civilian cycle described there; it is not a universal prompt for all territories or seasons.
Studio Lambert’s reviewed US-version application terms say filming takes place in the UK and that successful applicants need a valid passport and/or visa as required for travel. They also provide for identity verification and disqualification for failing eligibility or the terms, or for providing untruthful, incomplete, inaccurate or misleading information. What participants must follow if selected
Under the UK Series 3 terms, selected contributors agree to follow production directions and programme rules communicated verbally or in writing. The terms reserve the right to alter, change or add directions and rules. Applicants invited to later selection stages also consent to filming or recording their contribution; application media may be used in the programme or publicity. What is publicly known about filming?
The format’s central secrecy is clear: Studio Lambert says Traitors meet in secret to decide whom to eliminate, while Faithful try to identify and banish them. Studio Lambert’s UK format page.

How to interpret the requirements fairly
The BBC’s general guidance for talent searches says selection criteria should be clear, consistent and fair, with key requirements made clear to applicants. It recommends appropriate background checks before recording or finalizing a shortlist, and says applicants should be considered case by case; a criminal record does not necessarily rule someone out.
