Warner Bros. published the teaser on September 4, 2024; Minecraft’s official first-look post is dated September 3. Though often called a trailer, this is the teaser—not the fuller official trailer released later that year.
What the first Minecraft movie teaser shows
The teaser establishes its central visual contrast: recognizable cubic terrain and creatures rendered as part of a live-action world. A group of visitors is pulled through a portal into the Overworld, where they have to find their bearings in a place governed by Minecraft’s game-like logic.
Among the images Collider singled out were a pink sheep, the Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour,” and the cast’s reactions to their surroundings. Collider characterized the first look as mixing wonder with a sense of “what the hell” as the characters orient themselves. That describes the publication’s reading of the teaser, not a measured or universal audience response.
Who enters the Overworld—and who is Steve?
Official materials identify the four visitors as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn. Jack Black plays Steve, presented as an expert crafter who joins their journey.

Why “trailer” can mean two different videos here
The September 2024 video is called a “teaser” by official channels, even though the Collider headline calls it a trailer. Minecraft published a separate article for the official trailer on November 18, 2024. That later video broadens the story and introduces more of the adventurers and mobs; it is not the first look discussed in the headline.

Collider’s headline is an editorial judgment about the teaser’s immediate identity: a block-built fantasy landscape, familiar Minecraft imagery, and a playful adventure tone that sits oddly beside live-action performances. It should be read as the article’s reaction, not as evidence that every viewer expected or liked the same thing.
