The Fall Guy’s 2024 campaign made stunt work part of the story it was selling. Universal promoted the film with cast-led videos that joked about how to market it, alongside a separate promo introducing the stunt team. The available coverage describes these as related campaign pieces, not conclusively as the same video.
What the meta marketing videos show
In three promotional videos Universal released ahead of the film, Hannah Waddingham pitches unusual ways to market The Fall Guy, with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt also appearing in the spots. The joke is built around promotion itself: rather than simply present a conventional trailer, the cast makes the effort to sell the action movie part of the entertainment. CinemaBlend’s April 18, 2024 coverage describes the videos as “ultra-meta.”
A separate promo, reported on April 23, introduced the stunt team. That distinction matters: the coverage does not establish that the stunt-team introduction is one of the three cast-led meta spots. Taken together, though, the two kinds of video show the campaign’s dual approach—play with the conventions of movie marketing, and draw attention to the people who make the action possible. ComingSoon’s report covers the team-introduction promo.
Why stunt performers were central to the campaign
The Fall Guy is a 2024 Universal film about the world of film stunts, so highlighting stunt performers was more than a promotional flourish. In a May 2, 2024 article published ahead of the movie’s May 3 theatrical release, Universal said stunt performers and their stories had been at the forefront of the film’s promotion. The studio also described a live stunt show at Universal Hollywood Studios featuring jetski back flips, dirt bikes, and platform dives; that event ran only through May 19, 2024, and should be understood as a time-limited part of the original campaign, not a current attraction. Universal’s campaign article gives that context.

From visibility to a new professional credit
The campaign’s attention to stunt work also aligned with a formal credit milestone. Director David Leitch, producer Kelly McCormick, the 87North stunt team, and Universal worked to propose “Stunt Designer” for Chris O’Hara instead of the traditional “stunt coordinator” title. The aim was to recognize the role’s broader creative leadership. Universal called it the first such credit from SAG and DGA on the film; the Associated Press separately reported that SAG-AFTRA and the Directors Guild approved the designation.
Leitch described the creative contribution this way: “Stunt Designers are the creative architects behind fight scenes, high falls, and more, and deserve to be recognized for the creative leadership of their contributions.” The Associated Press also quoted O’Hara saying, “To be seen by the film community as stunt designers hopefully brings more light to what we really do.” These comments point to a distinction worth keeping clear: publicity can make a crew visible to audiences, while a professional credit names and recognizes creative work within the film industry.

The film’s emphasis on collaboration is also reflected in Gosling’s comments to Universal: “There are so many cynical movies about moviemaking. The crews care so much. They give so much, it’s amazing.” The cast-led meta spots may be playful, but their subject—the labor behind screen action—is central to the film’s identity.

What the stunt numbers do—and do not—tell us
The Associated Press reported that stunt performer Logan Holladay completed a vehicle cannon roll eight and a half times for The Fall Guy. That is a striking film-specific figure, not an industry-wide measure of stunt work, safety, or recognition. The AP also quoted Gosling joking, “I’m Ryan Gosling and I did almost none of my own stunts in this movie.” The line underscores why the campaign’s focus on the stunt team matters: on-screen action depends on skilled performers and creative crews, not simply the actors audiences recognize. The Associated Press report covers the credit and stunt work.
