Jensen Ackles plays Soldier Boy in The Boys season 3: a celebrated figure from Vought’s past brought into the show’s modern-day story. Showrunner Eric Kripke has said Soldier Boy knew Liberty—later known as Stormfront—and had been a Vought mainstay for decades. Ackles described him as an old-guard superhero confronting a changed world; those are the actor’s and showrunner’s perspectives, not a complete character biography.
Who is Soldier Boy in The Boys?
Soldier Boy is a superhero from the earlier generations of Vought’s fictional history, portrayed by Jensen Ackles. In a May 2022 interview, Ackles called him “the original superhero in this particular world” and described the role as an older, grandfather-like presence encountering the modern era. That framing conveys how Ackles approached the character; it is not a neutral account of every part of Soldier Boy’s history or season 3 story. Den of Geek, May 17, 2022
Kripke has also described Soldier Boy as part of the show’s developing account of Vought’s past. In an October 2020 interview, he compared the character’s standing at the company to John Wayne, saying, “He was like John Wayne there”. Kripke’s point was Soldier Boy’s stature within Vought, not a claim that the character is a direct historical equivalent. TV Guide, October 9, 2020
What is Soldier Boy’s connection to Vought and Stormfront?
According to Kripke, Soldier Boy knew Liberty, who later became known as Stormfront. He also said Soldier Boy had been a Vought mainstay for decades. These details connect Soldier Boy to both the company’s earlier history and another character’s past; they do not make the television series’ different timelines interchangeable with the comics.
