The available evidence does not verify the image’s origin or show that it was used in the film’s production. Director Jared Hess separately said the team did not use AI as part of development—a statement that does not establish the provenance of every image or asset connected to the movie.
What sparked the AI-image controversy?
In a May 2025 Reddit discussion titled “Minecraft movie BTS used AI?”, commenters questioned an image associated with behind-the-scenes material. The discussion records speculation, not a confirmed finding: it does not establish who created the image, how it was made, or how it appeared in that context. The Reddit thread is therefore evidence that the question circulated, not proof that the image was AI-generated or used by the production.
What did the director say about AI?
Asked about AI during production, director Jared Hess told TechRadar, “We didn’t use it as part of development.” His answer is relevant to the film’s development, but it should not be stretched into a claim about every outside vendor, asset, or image associated with the project. It also does not identify or explain the disputed behind-the-scenes image.
How did the film’s creators describe its visual style?
A separate Windows Central interview with the creators described the film’s bright, exaggerated visual direction as having been decided before generative AI became prominent, and said people and real materials brought it to life. That account provides context for the production’s visual approach, not evidence about the origin or handling of a particular image. The interview excerpt reporting this explanation does not clearly identify its speaker, so it should not be attributed to a named individual without further confirmation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Hess has also responded to criticism of the film’s visuals in a separate TechRadar interview. That discussion concerns audience reaction to the look of the adaptation; it does not authenticate the questioned image.
What is confirmed—and what remains unknown?
- Confirmed: A Reddit discussion raised the possibility that an image linked to behind-the-scenes material was AI-generated.
- Not confirmed: The image’s original creator, creation method, first publication, or route into the behind-the-scenes context.
- Attributed statement: Hess said the team did not use AI as part of development when asked about AI during production.
- Separate production context: A Windows Central interview described the visual direction as established before generative AI’s rise and realized by people using real materials.
These points do not establish that the image was generated by AI, appeared in the finished film, or was knowingly selected or commissioned by the production team. Without reliable provenance or a direct statement about that specific image, the allegation remains unverified.
