The live-action The Legend of Zelda movie has already wrapped filming, according to a report of Sony’s announcement at CinemaCon on April 14, 2026. Nintendo’s latest official announcement sets its planned worldwide theatrical release for April 30, 2027. The earlier headline that it had “seemingly started filming” is now out of date.
Has the Zelda movie started filming?
Yes—but production has since moved beyond filming. Nintendo Life reported in November 2025 that the production listing had changed to “In Production” and identified Wellington, New Zealand, as the main filming location. When does The Legend of Zelda come out?
Nintendo says the live-action film is planned for worldwide theatrical release on April 30, 2027, with Sony Pictures Entertainment distributing it. That is the current announced date; an earlier November 2025 production update quoted producer Shigeru Miyamoto referring to a then-planned May 7, 2027 release. Who is in the Zelda movie?
Nintendo’s announcement confirms Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad are producers, and Wes Ball is the director. Its announcement confirms the planned worldwide theatrical date, distributor, principal cast, director, producers, production companies and co-financing arrangement. The filming start location and wrap date above come from secondary reporting rather than Nintendo’s announcement.
