The “Kang Dynasty” plot and New Avengers lineup in the widely circulated 2022 report were never confirmed. BGR’s December 7, 2022 article described an alleged leak, but said it could not verify the information—and that the moderators who passed it along could not verify it either. Later reporting confirms that Marvel retooled the fifth Avengers film after Jonathan Majors left the franchise; it does not validate the old rumor.
What the 2022 leak report claimed
BGR’s Chris Smith attributed the account to an alleged leak relayed by the MarvelStudiosSpoilers moderators. The report described a large ensemble and a plot involving efforts to protect the multiverse, separate Avengers recruitment, an attack by Kang, and a broader multiverse collapse. These details were claims in an unverified report, not a confirmed synopsis or account of an approved screenplay. BGR’s December 7, 2022 article explicitly cautioned that the leak was unconfirmed.
The alleged team
The roster BGR reported included Sam Wilson/Captain America, Loki, Sylvie, Ant-Man, Wasp, Captain Marvel, Wonder Man, Shang-Chi, Kate Bishop, Clint Barton, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Clea, Ms. Marvel, Thor, She-Hulk, Black Panther, Moon Knight, Blade, Wanda, War Machine, Ironheart, Rescue, Reed Richards, and a Nova cameo. That is a rumor list from the article—not an official announcement of a New Avengers team, and not evidence that these characters were all set to appear together.
The alleged story
In the reported version, one group worked to protect the multiverse while Avengers recruitment unfolded separately. Kang then attacked, with the conflict leading to a wider multiverse collapse. Because the report’s source could not be verified, those events should be understood only as the plot BGR said the leak described. The report does not establish that Marvel approved or filmed this story.

What later reporting confirms about the film
The Associated Press later described the fifth Avengers movie as originally conceived as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and reported that it underwent considerable retooling after Jonathan Majors was dropped from the franchise. That supports a distinction between the project’s original Kang-centered conception and its later direction; it does not confirm the BGR roster or plot. The AP account of the reworked production quotes director Joe Russo saying, “We always view the script as a living organism.” The comment describes an evolving screenplay, not proof of any particular abandoned story detail.
The title *The Kang Dynasty* therefore refers to an earlier conception of the fifth Avengers film, not a reliable guide to the successor film’s current plot. The BGR article’s release-date language dates to 2022 and is not current scheduling information.

Why later rumor roundups do not settle the story
Later articles have circulated other possible versions of the abandoned concept, but they do not independently authenticate the BGR account. A January 2026 ScreenGeek report discusses a separate rumor involving multiverse “Anchor Beings” conditionally. An August 2026 ComicBookMovie.com retrospective compiles purported versions and says the authenticity of an alleged early draft cannot be established. Different rumors should not be merged into one definitive account, and repeated circulation is not verification.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What remains unknown
- The final approved plot and full roster for the abandoned Kang-centered concept are not established by these reports.
- It is not established whether the BGR leak reflected any draft of the screenplay.
- The available reporting does not show which, if any, elements of that rumored story carried into the successor film.
Accordingly, the alleged lineup is not a confirmed New Avengers team, and the leaked plot should not be presented as the current film’s synopsis.
