Their early work together was not simply a prelude to film appearances. Theatre and television were foundations of both careers, and the couple’s later collaborations drew on years of working alongside one another.
Seema Pahwa: from Badki to actor and director
Early work in television, radio and theatre
Seema began performing as a child. A 2015 Indian Express profile traces her early work through radio, Doordarshan and theatre, including her work with Sambhav and the National School of Drama Repertory Company. Her role as Badki in Hum Log brought her broad television recognition.

The profile reported several career figures attributed to Seema: nearly 150 radio plays and 70 television programmes. It also reported that Hum Log ran for 156 episodes. These are historical figures published in 2015, not current or independently audited totals. The profile also recounted one Delhi performance of Saag Meat attended by an audience of 250.
A return to wider film notice
Seema’s film career included a pause while she focused on raising the couple’s children. The 2015 Indian Express profile described Ferrari Ki Sawaari as part of her comeback and said Ankhon Dekhi (2014) brought renewed attention. A 2018 Scroll retrospective also connected her wider recognition with Ankhon Dekhi, followed by roles in Bareilly Ki Barfi and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan.

Seema has spoken about the limits of typecasting: “There should be enough common sense to know that an actor is an actor,” she told Scroll in 2018. Her career has moved between dramatic and comic parts rather than belonging to just one screen image.
Directing for stage and film
Seema has directed theatre as well as acted in it. In 2015, Naseeruddin Shah praised her direction, saying, “But she really surprised me with her directorial skills,” in an Indian Express profile. BookMyShow identifies Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi as her feature directorial debut. Its profile, accessed October 8, 2026, also lists acting credits including Bhool Chuk Maaf (2025) and Assi (2026). Those entries are profile listings, not independent confirmation of a title’s release or availability to watch.

Manoj Pahwa: comedy, television and dramatic roles
Manoj became familiar to television audiences through comedy, notably as Bhatia in Office Office. That comic reputation is only one part of his work: his dramatic role in the film Mulk was cited in the 2018 Scroll feature as an example of his range beyond comedy.
Manoj described the practical demands of an acting career to Scroll in 2018: “To survive, you need to do all kinds of roles, so you keep working.” The observation fits the contrast between his widely recognized comic work and his dramatic performances, without reducing his career to either category.

How they worked together on stage and screen
Seema and Manoj worked together in theatre and appeared in Hum Log before being paired in the films BHK [email protected] (2016) and Khajoor Pe Atke (2018). Their screen collaborations were therefore part of a much longer shared working history, not the start of it.
They said that they discussed roles and critiqued one another’s performances. Manoj described their rapport this way in 2018: “We have our tuning with each other – we have had it for 30 years.” Their account suggests a creative familiarity built over time, while their careers continued to follow distinct paths.
