The official transition already happened between series. On December 16, 2022, The Pokémon Company announced that a new animated series with new characters, including Liko and Roy, would follow the conclusion of the then-current Ash series. It also announced special episodes celebrating Ash’s journey and described them as the last chapter in Ash and Pikachu’s journey. The announcement established a change of protagonists; it did not promise a particular future for Horizons.
How the two series differ
The commentary contrasts the recurring regional journey associated with Ash and Pikachu with Horizons’ continuing mysteries and story threads. Its October 9, 2025 media-alert listing announced Pokémon Horizons: Season 3—Rising Hope, with Part 1 scheduled for Netflix in the United States in January 2026. A scheduled release window does not, by itself, establish what is currently available in a catalog.
