The Osbournes ran from 2002 to 2005, turning Ozzy Osbourne’s home life into a counterpoint to his fearsome heavy-metal image and making Sharon, Kelly, and Jack familiar television personalities. After the show, the family continued on screen in new projects; Ozzy later returned to Birmingham for a final concert before his death in July 2025.

The Osbournes made the family’s home life a television story

MTV’s The Osbournes followed Ozzy, Sharon, Kelly, and Jack at home during its 2002–2005 run. The appeal lay in the contrast: the performer known as the “Prince of Darkness” appeared in everyday family routines, meals, and arguments. The Associated Press described the series as changing reality television and helping make Sharon, Kelly, and Jack stars; the Los Angeles Times likewise called it a pop-culture phenomenon that launched their television careers.

That on-screen familiarity was still the result of a produced television series, not an unfiltered record of private life. Ozzy’s publicist Danny Deraney summed up the impression the show created in comments quoted by AP: “You saw some guy who was curious. You saw some guy who was being funny. You just saw pretty much the real thing.”

How the family later described making the show

Sharon Osbourne recalled that the project began after MTV filmed the family’s home for Cribs. In an account reported by Parade, she said the proposed filming period grew far beyond its original scope: “It wasn’t meant to be what it ended up.”

Jack later described the experience as difficult to sustain. Parade reported his comments from a podcast, including: “It was taking a huge toll on everyone’s mental psyche.” These are the family members’ retrospective accounts of filming; they should not be read as a clinical diagnosis.

Aimee Osbourne chose not to appear in the series, so its featured family was not the whole of Ozzy and Sharon’s children.

What the Osbournes did after MTV

Jack and Ozzy returned to television together

The family’s television story did not end with the MTV series. Jack and Ozzy later appeared together in Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour, taking their father-and-son dynamic beyond the family home.

A planned series became a documentary

Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home revisits the family in a later, very different period. Production company Banijay describes it as a one-hour film made over three years with access to Ozzy, Sharon, Jack, and Kelly. It began as the series Home to Roost, announced in 2022, but became a documentary as Ozzy’s health deteriorated. The format change reflects the circumstances of the project rather than a continuation of the original reality show.

Ozzy’s final concert and death

Banijay says Ozzy performed at the Birmingham homecoming concert on July 5, 2025, and died at home just over two weeks later. His death in July 2025 brought the story of the family’s television years into sharp relief: a show that had introduced viewers to him in ordinary domestic moments now sits alongside a final public return to his musical roots.

What has been reported about the Osbournes’ legacy projects

In an August 2026 interview, Louder reported Sharon’s account that Ozzfest was planned to return to Birmingham’s Villa Park in 2027. The same report said a film of the July 2025 Back to the Beginning concert was planned. Those are reported future plans, not events or releases confirmed as completed; schedules can change.

Where to watch The Osbournes

Streaming availability depends on territory and can change. Parade reported in August 2026 that The Osbournes was available on Peacock and Amazon Prime Video, while the Los Angeles Times writer reported watching season one on Prime Video in July 2025. Neither report establishes comprehensive, current availability by country or confirms that every season is offered everywhere. Check the services’ local catalogs for the latest listing.
