The Orville has a meaningful sign of creative progress: Seth MacFarlane said its fourth-season scripts are written. But he also said making the season depends on finding time in his schedule. That is not the same as an official renewal, a production start, or a release date.
Is The Orville coming back for season 4?
A fourth season is possible, but the available statements do not confirm that it has been ordered. On March 4, 2026, GamesRadar reported comments MacFarlane made to The Hollywood Reporter: “I will be honest with you: season four is written.” He added, “It’s just a question of when we have the time to produce it.”

MacFarlane also described the obstacle as his own schedule: “I’m the problem. It’s [a matter of] when I can make that my year, with all the other stuff we have in the works.” The comments suggest scripts exist, while production remains contingent on his availability. They do not establish a greenlight, filming dates, cast commitments, or a premiere window. GamesRadar’s March 4, 2026 report attributes the remarks to MacFarlane’s interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Has Hulu or Disney officially renewed it?
No fourth-season renewal is established by the official pages cited here. Hulu’s press page identifies The Orville: New Horizons as a Hulu original and gives background on its setting and production companies; it is a series reference, not a season-four announcement. Hulu’s series page does not confirm a new order.

Disney+’s listing describes The Orville as a 2017–2022 series with three seasons. That is the released-run baseline, not evidence about future production. Disney+’s listing may show different availability depending on the viewer’s region.
What did MacFarlane say before?
In 2023, when asked about a possible fourth season, MacFarlane told TheWrap: “All I can tell you is that there is no official death certificate for ‘The Orville.’” That comment meant the show had not been formally declared dead at that point; it was not a renewal announcement. TheWrap’s 2023 report provides that earlier context.

When could season 4 come out?
There is no confirmed release date or production schedule in the statements and official catalog pages cited here. MacFarlane’s remarks identify scheduling as the condition for moving forward, but offer no timeline. Until Hulu, Disney, or the production makes a formal announcement, any premiere date or claim that filming has begun would be speculation.
