Erin and Pete make a convincing late-series match—not because official episode summaries certify them as soulmates, but because their story begins as Erin is trying to move on from Andy. The case for them is strongest as a reading of the season’s timing and choices; whether their chemistry works is for the episodes themselves to show.
What the season-nine setup establishes
Erin and Pete’s pairing is explicitly part of the season-nine story. Peacock’s official summary for “Customer Loyalty” says Nellie regrets pairing Erin and Pete. The summary for “Couples’ Discount” says Erin vows to break up with Andy. Universal’s season-nine synopsis likewise describes Erin as struggling with matters of the heart.
Those summaries establish the broad triangle, not a verdict on the couple. They do not independently prove compatibility, chemistry, or that one relationship is better for Erin. Those are interpretive questions, answered by how the show presents her choices and gives each relationship space.
Why Pete can feel like a better fit
The timing works in his favor
The show places Pete’s connection with Erin in the period when she is trying to leave her relationship with Andy behind. That timing makes Pete legible as a fresh possibility rather than a simple continuation of the old story. It also gives the pairing a distinct purpose in the season: Erin is not only choosing between two men, but navigating what comes after a relationship that no longer seems right to her.
#1 Best Overall
The comparison is about the relationships, not a contest between men
Andy and Pete function differently in Erin’s season-nine arc. The official episode setup links Andy to Erin’s vow to break up, while Pete is part of the new pairing Nellie arranged. My reading is that this contrast makes Pete feel more promising: the story associates him with a possible next chapter, while Erin’s decision about Andy is already in motion. That is a narrative impression, not proof that Pete is objectively a better partner.
The show gives the idea room, but not a definitive case
A pairing can feel right because of the moment it arrives and the role it plays in a character’s story, even if the series does not build an extended, fully tested romance around it. Erin and Pete’s late-series placement supports the sense of a fresh start, but the official summaries alone do not establish how durable the relationship would be or settle the question of on-screen chemistry. Calling them a great pair is therefore a defensible interpretation, not a confirmed conclusion from the catalog descriptions.
What the official summaries cannot tell you
- Compatibility: the Peacock summaries identify the pairing and Erin’s decision about Andy, but do not assess whether Erin and Pete suit each other.
- Chemistry: that depends on the performances and scenes, not the short plot descriptions.
- Creator intent or fan consensus: the available official material makes no claim about either.
For a direct comparison, watch how Erin’s choices unfold in “Customer Loyalty” and “Couples’ Discount,” then judge whether the series makes Pete feel like a genuine connection or primarily a signal that Erin is moving on.
