Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the creators of Netflix’s Wednesday, are developing a new animated Addams Family feature with Amazon MGM Studios and other collaborators. The catch: Gough says it is a separate reboot, not a continuation of Wednesday or the two earlier animated films. The project was in very early stages when he discussed it in 2025; a release date, cast and plot have not been announced in the sources available.
What is the new Addams Family movie?
It is a new animated feature described by Gough as a reboot of the animated Addams Family film franchise. GamesRadar’s August 2025 report reproduced Gough’s comments to Deadline: he said the team was working with Amazon MGM Studios, Kevin Miserocchi, who leads the Addams Foundation, Gail Berman and John Glickman. This was an account of his interview, not a studio announcement that production had begun. GamesRadar’s report carries the details.
Gough put the project’s status plainly: “We’re rebooting the animated film franchise. So it won’t have anything to do with the two films before it, nor is it connected with this show. It will be a brand new Addams feature. There’s not really much we can say about it, because it’s in the very early stages.” The quotation is attributed to Gough in the report of his Deadline interview.
Is the movie connected to Netflix’s Wednesday?
No. Gough explicitly said the animated movie would not be connected to Wednesday. The link between the projects is that Gough and Millar are associated with both—not that the film is a crossover, spin-off or continuation of the series.

Netflix’s 2021 announcement described Wednesday as a live-action series developed from Gough and Millar’s pitch, with Tim Burton directing. That shared creative history helps explain the connection in the headline, but it does not override Gough’s statement that the new film is separate. Netflix’s announcement provides the series context.
How does it relate to the earlier animated films?
Gough said the new feature would also be separate from the two earlier animated Addams Family films. His description points to a fresh animated reboot rather than a third installment continuing those films’ story. The available comments do not establish a plot, characters or other story details.

What is known about its release and production?
When Gough spoke about the project in 2025, he called it “in the very early stages.” The sources available do not establish a release date, announced cast, plot, or confirmation that production has started. Those details should be treated as unannounced, not inferred from the progress of Wednesday.
Netflix Tudum reported on September 30, 2026, that production on Wednesday Season 3 had wrapped, and Gough and Millar previewed more Addams family members and family secrets for that season. That update concerns the series, not the separate animated film. Netflix Tudum’s Season 3 update does not provide a movie-status announcement.
