Three months later, the couple announced they had mutually decided to divorce, saying they still loved each other but could not agree on where to live.
How Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist got to the wedding
Turner and Nist met on the first season of The Golden Bachelor. Turner proposed in the season finale, which aired on November 30, 2023. Their wedding followed just over a month later, in ABC’s live special The Golden Wedding.

How the special set up the ceremony
The broadcast showed the couple preparing for the event, including decisions about the setting, flowers, candles, a signature cocktail and cake. ABC7’s recap also describes segments about choosing a wedding dress and rings. Before the ceremony, the couple shared scenes about spending the holidays with each other’s families and taking part in their traditions.
The broadcast presented the wedding as a family occasion as well as a Bachelor Nation event. The couple’s children and grandchildren joined the wedding party, and a string quartet played as relatives walked down the aisle.

The ceremony and family tributes
Theresa wore a white mermaid-style Badgley Mischka gown and entered with her son, Tommy. Susan Noles, a contestant from Turner’s season, officiated. Turner’s daughters, Jenny and Angie, spoke about their father and welcoming Nist into the family; Nist’s daughter, Jen, also offered a tribute.
In her vows, Nist said she had joined The Golden Bachelor open to meeting the man of her dreams but had not expected to find him there. Turner recalled their first date, including a chocolate shake and Costa Rican coffee, and promised to choose her and not take her heart for granted.

Noles brought humor and affection to the ceremony. She joked that five years earlier she would have expected to officiate the first Golden Bachelor wedding, “and he wasn’t picking me.” She then said she had never married a couple she had watched fall so deeply in love. After the vows, Turner and Nist exchanged rings, were pronounced husband and wife, and kissed.
The reception and Bachelor Nation guests
The celebration continued with a reception, dancing and a bouquet toss. Fellow contestants and Bachelor franchise alumni attended, including Leslie Fhima, Turner’s runner-up on the show. She told ABC she had come to support love.

What happened after the wedding
On April 12, 2024, Turner and Nist announced their mutual decision to divorce in an interview on Good Morning America. Turner said their strong dedication to their families and their living situation shaped the decision. Nist said they had looked at homes in South Carolina and New Jersey but had not reached a decision about where to settle. They said they had not fallen out of love.
The wedding special ended with the couple beginning married life together. Their later announcement gives that televised celebration a different ending: the marriage did not last, though both described the divorce as a mutual choice made while they still loved each other.
