Cillian Murphy is back as Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, a feature continuation of the six-season crime saga. Set in Birmingham in 1940 during World War II, the film follows Tommy’s return from self-imposed exile for a reckoning involving his family, his country and his legacy. Tom Harper directed the film, written by series creator Steven Knight. It began streaming on Netflix on March 20, 2026; check your local Netflix catalogue for availability.
What is the Peaky Blinders movie called?
The official title is Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. Netflix describes it as an epic continuation of the series, which ran for six seasons and concluded in 2022. The film is set in Birmingham in 1940, during World War II. Netflix Media Center’s official synopsis and credits provide the title and setting.
Does Cillian Murphy return as Tommy Shelby?
Yes. Murphy reprises Tommy Shelby, the character at the center of the series. Speaking to Netflix Tudum, Murphy said, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me.” The quote reflects his return to the role, not an independent assessment of the film.
What is The Immortal Man about?
Tommy has been living in self-imposed exile, but events draw him back to Birmingham and into a reckoning with his family, his country and his legacy. Netflix Tudum’s synopsis adds that Tommy’s estranged son becomes involved in a Nazi plot, prompting his return. That is the premise, not a full plot summary; the details here stay spoiler-light.

Writer Steven Knight framed the wartime backdrop this way: “The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.” The film brings the Shelby family story into a new historical setting, rather than presenting itself as a separate crime story unrelated to the series.
Who made the film, and who is in the cast?
Tom Harper directed The Immortal Man, and Steven Knight wrote it. Harper previously directed episodes of the television series. Netflix’s 2024 announcement said the feature was being made in association with BBC Film; that announcement is historical production information, rather than a current release or availability update.

Do you need to watch the series first?
The series offers the longer account of the Shelby family and the events leading up to the film. Netflix describes it as a six-season saga, and the film’s premise centers on Tommy’s family and legacy. Watching the series is the way to get that broader context; the available synopsis does not say that a full rewatch is required to follow the movie.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What does the title’s style mean for fans?
The series has influenced menswear, including interest in Tommy Shelby’s flat cap. Netflix Tudum discusses that style influence, but the available information does not establish a specific official replica or product listing. A Tommy Shelby-inspired flat cap is a style reference, not a claim that an item is licensed, screen-used or identical to one worn in the film.
