Spoilers for the finale. Episode 10 is where Suicide Squad ISEKAI most fully brings its ingredients together: DC’s volatile antiheroes, an isekai kingdom under siege, and the kind of outsized action the premise promises. That payoff makes the ending satisfying as spectacle and ensemble entertainment—not because the story suddenly becomes especially original.
Why episode 10 feels like the show’s fullest expression
Suicide Squad ISEKAI is an original 2024 action-fantasy anime based on DC characters, produced by Warner Bros. Japan and animated by WIT Studio. Its central conceit is a collision of genres: Amanda Waller sends Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark through a gate into a fantasy world, where bomb deadlines and military objectives turn the team’s survival into a mission.
The finale concentrates that setup into a direct, high-stakes confrontation. Warner Bros. Japan’s official episode 10 synopsis describes Lich’s undead army attacking the kingdom and the Squad preparing for a showdown with magical help and legendary armor. The official account establishes the threat and the spectacle, not every beat of the resolution; the case for the finale’s payoff rests on how those elements bring the series’ central fantasy into focus.
The title’s “full potential” is best understood as a convergence, not a transformation into a different kind of show. The heroes are still a dysfunctional band of dangerous personalities, and the fantasy conflict still gives them a huge external problem to punch, shoot, or otherwise confront. Here, those two sides finally occupy the same dramatic space: the Squad’s identities matter because the kingdom needs them, while the fantasy setting gives their familiar DC traits a heightened arena.

How the finale’s setup pays off the premise
A threat suited to the Squad
Episode 9’s official synopsis sets up a kingdom in crisis: the Undead King’s truth is revealed, Princess Fione is devastated, and Harley’s intervention leads Fione to take a stand to save her home. Episode 10 escalates that setup into an undead-army attack. The progression gives the action an emotional and political stake beyond simply completing Waller’s assignment: the kingdom’s fate is now bound up with the Squad’s choices.
Fantasy spectacle meets DC attitude
Magical assistance and legendary armor are familiar fantasy-story tools, but they have a particular charge in a series built around Harley and her teammates being dropped into another world. The contrast is part of the appeal: a mythic kingdom faces a crisis, and its unlikely champions are the Suicide Squad. The premise does not need to disguise the characters as conventional fantasy heroes; its fun comes from watching their comic-book identities operate inside a genre that expects prophecy, magic, and heroic last stands.

The team remains the draw
The Squad’s appeal depends on friction as much as firepower. Harley’s intervention in Fione’s story gives the finale’s setup a point of contact between the team and the people they have been sent to confront or protect. The larger ensemble then supplies the unruly energy that distinguishes the series from a straightforward fantasy-war story. The payoff is less about making the Squad morally tidy than about making its volatile personalities useful in a crisis.
What the finale does not fix
The story is not the anime’s most inventive element. The Fandom Post’s August 16, 2024 review judged that the ending “for the most part stays the course,” while crediting the scripting, direction, animation, and production values. That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a consensus, but it captures the trade-off: the finale’s strength is execution and combination, rather than a radical reinvention of the plot.

The review also notes that the upgraded character designs arrive late, comparing their brief appearance to a final upgraded RPG character showing up near the end. That timing can make a visual payoff feel compressed. It is still a striking way to heighten the climactic material, but it leaves less room for the new look to become a sustained part of the characters’ journeys.
That distinction matters when judging whether the finale “unleashes” the show’s potential. It gathers the series’ most appealing elements—its DC cast, fantasy stakes, and heightened action—without erasing the limits of its familiar story framework. Viewers looking for unusual world-building or a highly surprising narrative may find the same constraint remains; viewers drawn to the genre mash-up and the Squad’s presence get the clearest version of what the series has been building toward.

What the finale’s reception and production context tell us
The series was directed by Eri Osada, with Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara credited as writers by DC. Warner Bros. Japan credits WIT Studio for animation production, Akira Amano for character-design drafts, Naoto Hosoda for character design, and Kenichiro Suehiro for music. Those credits help explain the project’s deliberate blend of recognizable DC characters and anime production, but they are not evidence by themselves of the finale’s quality.
At launch, WIT Studio CEO George Wada said, “I hope this will become the opportunity for DC characters to expand even further in Japan.” Warner Bros. Japan producer Shinya Tsuruoka described it as “an outrageous anime project we deliver for global audience from Japan.” Those statements frame the cross-cultural ambition behind the project; they should be read as promotional intent, not independent evaluation of how well episode 10 succeeds.
