Young reportedly replied with a public note and a cover of the song. But the claim that Swift then “ghosted” him is not substantiated by the available reporting: it does not establish what happened between them privately afterward.
Who is “Enchanted” believed to be about?
Retrospective accounts identify Adam Young, the musician behind Owl City, as the person connected to “Enchanted.” That identification rests on clues and reported remarks; the coverage does not show Swift publicly confirming Young by name as the song’s subject. The List’s account and Showbiz Cheat Sheet’s retrospective present the connection with that qualification.
Swift’s reported description was of meeting a man in New York after they had communicated by email. She said she hoped he was not in love with someone else. That account suggests a crush and a memorable meeting, not a confirmed relationship. Showbiz Cheat Sheet and The List quote her describing the encounter.
How did Adam Young respond?
Retrospective reporting says Young posted a written response and recorded a cover of “Enchanted.” The List quotes him introducing the recording as “a sort of a ‘reply’” to the song, and closing with the words, “I was enchanted to meet you too.” These are quotations as reproduced by The List, not independently verified here against Young’s original post. Read The List’s account of Young’s response.

The response was musical and public, according to that coverage. It does not, on its own, tell us whether Swift answered him privately or what either person wanted from the encounter.
Did Taylor Swift ghost Adam Young?
The available coverage does not substantiate that Swift ghosted Young. TheThings’ July 30, 2023 article frames the story that way, but its summary and the retrospective accounts describe the song’s presumed inspiration and Young’s reply without establishing what Swift did afterward. TheThings’ article is the source of the headline framing, not proof of a deliberate silence.

That distinction matters: the evidence supports a reported meeting, a song widely associated with Young, and his public musical reply. It does not confirm that the two dated, that Swift ignored him, or that there was a private exchange after his response.

“Enchanted” is associated with Speak Now. Swift’s later re-recording, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), includes the song as well. The connection to Young is part of the song’s frequently retold backstory, but should be described as a widely reported identification rather than a confirmed dedication.
