An April 2025 report attributed the claim that she was being lined up for the lead role to unnamed sources; it did not establish that Swift or the studio confirmed talks. The remake and director Sam Wrench’s involvement were reported separately, with Jonathan Abrams writing the script.
What is confirmed about the remake?
CNA reported that Warner Bros. was developing a remake of the 1992 film, with Sam Wrench directing and Jonathan Abrams writing. The report said Warner Bros. executives Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy confirmed Wrench’s attachment in an interview with Deadline. CNA also said casting had not been announced when its article was published.

The project has been in development for years. A 2021 report said Warner Bros. hired Matthew López to write a screenplay; CNA later described López’s work as an earlier version and identified Abrams as the writer of the script then in development. That history does not establish that the current film has entered production.
Where did the Taylor Swift casting report come from?
The Independent reported on April 18, 2025, that Swift was being lined up to play Rachel Marron, attributing that claim to unnamed Daily Mail insiders. That is a report of an unconfirmed casting possibility, not an announcement from Swift, her representatives, or Warner Bros. The coverage available here does not establish that she signed on or is officially in talks.

Vanity Fair reported on April 12, 2025, that the cast and release date had yet to be announced. Those reports describe the project’s status at the time they were published; they should not be treated as confirmation of its status today. No later casting announcement is established by the cited coverage.
Who played Rachel Marron in the original?
The 1992 The Bodyguard, directed by Mick Jackson, starred Whitney Houston as Rachel Marron, a singer threatened by a stalker, and Kevin Costner as Frank Farmer, the former Secret Service agent hired to protect her. The protection thriller also develops a romance between the singer and her bodyguard.

Music is central to the original film. Houston performed “I Will Always Love You,” “Run to You,” and “I Have Nothing”; The Independent reported that the latter two received Academy Award nominations. The remake’s cast and approach to the music have not been established in the cited reports.
What has Swift said about acting in films?
At a 2022 Toronto International Film Festival discussion, Swift said she would “absolutely love for the right opportunity to arise” and described making a film as a commitment she would consider as a next step. That comment expressed general interest in filmmaking; it was not about The Bodyguard and does not confirm her involvement.

A confirmed casting update would come from Warner Bros., Swift or her representatives, or reporting that clearly identifies a reliable, attributable source. Until then, the distinction matters: the remake and Wrench’s directing attachment were reported, while Swift’s potential role rests on unnamed-source reporting.
