No. Taylor Swift said she did not reject a formal Super Bowl halftime offer over the rights to performance footage. In an October 2025 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she described informal conversations between her team and Jay-Z’s team—not an official offer or formal meeting—and said she was focused on watching Travis Kelce play during football season.
What did Taylor Swift say about the rumor?
Swift rejected the claim that she turned down the halftime show because she would not own the performance footage. Asked about that explanation, she answered, “No, no, no,” according to the Associated Press.
She described occasional conversations between her team and Jay-Z’s team about how she felt about the Super Bowl, but drew a clear line between those feelers and a real offer: “And that’s not like an official offer or, like, an official conference room conversation,” she told Jimmy Fallon.
Why did she say she was not pursuing the show?
Swift said her attention during football season was on Kelce and his play: “The whole season I am locked in on what that man is doing on the field,” she said, as reported by the Associated Press. The TheWrap reported that she also said Kelce would like her to perform. Her explanation was about her own focus, not opposition from him.

What was the rumor—and what is established?
The rumor portrayed Swift’s absence from the 2026 halftime show as a rejection of an offer tied to a disagreement about performance-footage rights. Sports Illustrated described that framing as a supposed dispute with Roc Nation. Swift’s account does not establish a formal offer, a negotiation, or a rights dispute; she characterized the conversations as informal and denied the footage-rights explanation.
