In March 2025, Tash Sultana said their wife, Jaimie, had been diagnosed with cancer late the previous year. Sultana shared the news while introducing “Hold On,” a song written for Jaimie and for anyone trying to find strength amid uncertainty. The reporting documents what Sultana said then; it does not establish Jaimie’s current health.
What Tash Sultana said about Jaimie’s diagnosis
In a March 12, 2025 report, PerthNow quoted Sultana saying Jaimie had been diagnosed with cancer at the end of 2024. Sultana described the news as unexpected and said the couple had few answers at the time. “We are getting through it together, one step at a time,” they said.
The report does not identify a cancer type, stage, prognosis or treatment. Nor does it provide a later health update. It would therefore be inaccurate to present that 2025 disclosure as confirmation of Jaimie’s condition now.
Why Sultana released “Hold On”
Sultana announced “Hold On” as a single and video on March 6, 2025. In the release statement, they said the song was for their wife and for anyone who had needed strength when life became uncertain: “Some moments change everything,” they reflected. The statement framed the track as a message of hope, rather than a medical account.

How “Hold On” fits into Return to the Roots
In May 2025, Sultana released Return to the Roots, a six-track EP with “Hold On” as its fourth track, according to Exclaim!’s May 29 report. The single thus became part of a larger release, not just a standalone response to the disclosure.

In a June 4, 2025 interview with Rolling Stone Australia, Sultana said the track had not originally been intended for live performance, describing it as “too raw.” That was their view in that interview; it should not be read as a statement of their current performance plans.

The latest item in the cited coverage is unrelated to Jaimie’s health: on May 19, 2026, BMG announced a global recording agreement with Sultana covering future recordings and a catalog that will revert to BMG in 2030. BMG’s announcement offers label context, but no update on the family disclosure.
