The “over $3 billion” figure refers to an estimated cumulative worldwide box office for films in Taraji P. Henson’s filmography—not to a single film. Two filmography compilations put that total at different amounts, while the best-performing individual title in the cited records, Minions: The Rise of Gru, earned about $942 million worldwide.
Why the career total is an estimate
NetflixMovies.com’s compilation reports $3.6 billion in combined worldwide box office for Henson’s films. It says its count includes 31 of 41 films with worldwide figures, one with a US-only figure, seven that never played in cinemas, and two for which it found no figure. Those are the compiler’s own coverage counts, not an audited industry total. NetflixMovies.com’s filmography compilation

A separate compilation from What’s After the Movie reports $3.01 billion. The pages do not establish a common inclusion rule or calculation method, so the roughly $590 million gap cannot be reconciled from the published totals alone. Neither number should be treated as a definitive, independently audited career gross. What’s After the Movie’s compilation

- Individual film versus filmography: No single Henson film in these records made $3 billion; that figure is a sum across a collection of titles.
- Worldwide versus domestic: The leading-film figures above are worldwide grosses. They should not be compared with domestic-only box office figures.
- Compilation versus audited career total: The two career totals come from separate compilations with no documented shared coverage rule. Their differing totals are a reason to name the source whenever quoting a career-wide sum.
Box-office databases can revise records, and filmography totals depend on which credits and incomplete records a compiler includes. The available figures support identifying the leading titles, but not presenting one precise, settled total for Henson’s entire career.
