A December 2022 report described a European McDonald’s Happy Meal ad featuring a short Super Mario Bros. Movie clip: Mario attempts a sequence of acrobatic jumps, misses a question block, and is finally hit by a Piranha Plant. The report did not identify a country or establish whether the video was leaked or released as intentional marketing.
What happens in the clip?
HotHardware’s Lane Babuder described the video as a platforming sequence. Mario wall-jumps, bounces on a spring platform, and mostly avoids attacks from Piranha Plants. He misses a question block before a Piranha Plant attack brings the attempt to an end.
The report presents these events as what the ad showed; it does not provide a fuller scene-by-scene account or identify the clip’s place in the film.
What did the ad say about Happy Meal toys?
According to the report, the Happy Meal ad offered an outline of toys that might be available around the film’s release. It named no individual toys and did not provide a verified list by market. Babuder also cautioned that the toys might not reach every market, so the report does not establish a universal lineup.

Was the video leaked or officially released?
Babuder’s December 13, 2022 article said the ad’s status was uncertain. It noted that many people labeled it a leak, but suggested it could instead have been intentional marketing. That suggestion was the author’s speculation—not a confirmed statement from McDonald’s, Nintendo, or the film’s distributors.
