The Super Bowl LX broadcast on NBC and Peacock included a special spot for Spielberg’s film, according to NBCUniversal. Amblin’s official film page lists the promotion as the “Super Bowl Spot.” Its copy urges, “People deserve to know,” and gives the original theatrical date: June 12, 2026. Other official promotional lines include “We deserve to know the truth” and “This summer everything will become clear.” These are studio taglines, not plot revelations.
The spot introduces the film through a question from Universal: “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?” The framing signals an extraterrestrial mystery centered on disclosure, while leaving much of the story unexplained.
What is Disclosure Day about?
Universal’s premise asks how people would respond to proof that humanity is not alone. In Associated Press reporting, Josh O’Connor plays a cybersecurity whistleblower with government evidence of a long-suppressed history of alien encounters. Disclosure Day is directed by Steven Spielberg, who also originated the story. David Koepp wrote the screenplay, and Janusz Kamiński is the cinematographer, according to Amblin Entertainment. Is Disclosure Day Spielberg’s first sci-fi film in eight years?
That description is broadly understandable, but it needs a distinction. If “sci-fi” means science fiction generally, the comparison is Ready Player One, Spielberg’s 2018 film. Disclosure Day is therefore his first broadly science-fiction feature since then—not his first movie in eight years. He directed The Fabelmans, released in 2022.

If the label means extraterrestrial science fiction specifically, NBCUniversal describes Disclosure Day as Spielberg’s first foray into that subgenre in more than two decades.
