She said a false AI-generated image depicting her as a Donald Trump supporter had heightened her concern about election misinformation and helped prompt her to state her own voting plans publicly.
What Taylor Swift said about Kamala Harris
In an Instagram post after the September 10, 2024 debate, Swift said she would vote for Harris and Walz. She described Harris as a “steady-handed, gifted leader” and said she supported Walz’s positions on LGBTQ+ rights, IVF and abortion rights. ABC News reported on the endorsement and its timing; TVLine reproduced the statement.
Swift also urged readers to look into the candidates’ positions for themselves. “I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make,” she wrote. Her post encouraged people to register to vote and to vote early if possible.
Why Swift mentioned AI
Swift said an AI-generated depiction of her falsely endorsing Trump had appeared on his website. She wrote that it “really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” and said the episode led her to be transparent about her plans as a voter. ABC News covered her explanation; TechCrunch reported on the AI context.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The image was not a real endorsement. TIME described the images Trump posted in August as AI-created depictions of Swift and fans supporting him. Swift’s statement was her response to the risk of people mistaking fabricated political content for her own words—not evidence that the images persuaded voters.
What the reported numbers do—and do not—show
Axios reported a sharp increase in activity around Vote.gov after Swift shared a link, but visits and social engagement are not the same as registrations or votes.

| Reported measure | What was reported | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Vote.gov visits after Swift’s post | About 338,000 visits in the 15 hours after she shared the link, according to Axios in 2024. | Traffic to the site rose; Axios said it was not immediately clear how many visits resulted in registrations. |
| Typical Vote.gov visits before the debate | About 40,000 daily visits on average during the month before the debate, based on SimilarWeb data cited by Axios in 2024. | Context for the traffic increase, not a count of people who registered. |
| Likes and shares | More than 9.7 million likes and more than 1.5 million shares by 9 p.m. ET, less than a day after the post, Axios reported in 2024. | Engagement with the post at that time, not proof of persuasion or a change in vote choice. |
Axios reported the traffic and engagement figures. The available figures do not establish how many people registered because of the post, whether anyone changed a vote, or what effect the endorsement had on the election.
How experts described the broader risk
The concern Swift raised fits a wider problem: fabricated political content can be presented in ways that blur the line between an authentic statement and an impersonation. Linda Bloss-Baum, an American University professor in the Business and Entertainment program, told TechCrunch that the AI element gave Swift’s statement a personal perspective on the election. Craig Holman, a Public Citizen government affairs lobbyist, told TIME that campaigns using nonexistent information could put election integrity at risk. Those are expert assessments of the broader threat, not measured findings about the effect of these specific images.

False claims that followed the endorsement
The misinformation did not end with the AI images. After Swift’s endorsement, false claims circulated that backlash had forced her to cancel tour dates and that Coca-Cola had ended a partnership with her. FactCheck.org traced the cancellation story to a site that labeled it satire and reported that a Coca-Cola representative said the partnership claim was false.
These rumors illustrate why the distinction matters: a real endorsement, an AI-generated impersonation and an invented follow-up story are different kinds of claims, and each requires its own evidence.
