Ars Technica, citing Bloomberg’s unnamed sources, reported that Spotify planned higher prices and a music-and-podcast tier without included audiobook listening. Spotify declined to comment to Ars. The reported figures were expectations at the time, not confirmed current prices or proof that a change took effect everywhere.
What the April 2024 report said
Ars Technica reported that individual plans were expected to rise by about $1 per month and multi-member plans by about $2. The report said increases were expected to begin in markets including Australia, Pakistan and the United Kingdom, with the United States later in 2024. It also described a planned music-and-podcast tier that would not include audiobook hours. These details came through Bloomberg’s unnamed sources; Spotify did not confirm them to Ars. Ars Technica’s April 3, 2024 report.
At the time, Premium included up to 15 hours of audiobook listening per month in eligible markets. The proposed tier distinction would have separated plans with that benefit from one without it. The article connected the proposal to Spotify’s audiobook monetization, but its anonymous sourcing does not establish Spotify’s internal rationale.
Is this a new or confirmed price increase?
No. The headline describes the 2024 report, not a price increase announced in October 2026. The reported $1 and $2 amounts should not be used as current prices or assumed to have applied in every market. Spotify’s May 2026 Investor Day remarks listed US Premium Individual at $12.99 per month and Student at $6.99 at that time; those dated figures do not establish October prices or prices elsewhere. What Spotify announced about audiobooks in October 2026
On October 7, 2026, Spotify announced a planned expansion of audiobook access from 22 markets to more than 180 by the end of the year. Spotify said the markets targeted by the expansion represent more than 750 million people, and that newly served markets would receive catalogs of more than 350,000 titles in over 120 languages. These are Spotify’s published figures for a rollout still planned through year-end; they do not mean every market had access on October 8. Spotify’s October 7, 2026 announcement.
Spotify said eligible Premium subscribers receive 12 monthly audiobook hours. It described Audiobooks+ as an option for Premium users to buy additional listening time and as a recurring add-on that gives Premium Family and Duo members 15 hours monthly. Spotify also reported more than one million Audiobooks+ subscribers and over $100 million in annual recurring revenue since launch. Those are company-reported figures in the October 7 announcement.

Check the terms for your country and plan
Audiobook access, hours and pricing depend on market and account eligibility, so check the terms shown in Spotify for your location rather than relying on the 2024 headline. Spotify’s US Audiobooks Access support page describes a US-only plan with 15 hours per month from its audiobook subscriber catalog, alongside ad-supported music and podcasts; it also notes that some devices are unsupported. Spotify’s US Audiobooks page displayed a $9.99 monthly price when checked and a promotion for new Audiobooks+ subscribers ending October 20, 2026. Printed books and switching formats
For readers who prefer a physical edition, Spotify announced on April 15, 2026 that printed-book sales were going live in the US and UK through Bookshop.org. Its Page Match feature is designed to switch between an audiobook and a physical copy. Spotify reported that Page Match users listened to an average of 55% more audiobook hours per week than other listeners; that company-reported comparison does not show that Page Match caused the difference.
