When will Spotify charge my account the new price?
The January 15, 2026 announcement applies to subscribers in the US, Estonia, and Latvia. Spotify said it would email subscribers in the affected markets over the following month with details about their subscriptions. Spotify Support says the email explains the new price and gives a one-month grace period to cancel before it takes effect. The actual billing date varies with the date you subscribed, so January 15 is the announcement date—not a universal date for the higher charge.

Why did Spotify raise Premium prices again?
Spotify said its pricing update reflects the value it delivers and is intended to help it continue offering its service and benefit artists. In its January 15 announcement, the company stated: “Occasional updates to pricing across our markets reflect the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists.” Spotify Support also says the change is intended to support continued innovation in changing market conditions and delivery of audio content. These are Spotify’s explanations; the announcement does not identify an individual speaker or establish an independent account of the reasons for the increase. Read Spotify’s announcement.

How can you avoid paying the new Spotify price?
If the higher Individual rate does not work for you, Spotify identifies three routes: switch to a plan you qualify for, use its free ad-supported service, or cancel before your next billing date. Choose based on who needs an account and whether the free service meets your needs.
- Check eligibility for another paid plan. Student requires eligible-student verification. Duo is for two people at the same address, and Family is for up to six people at the same address. Compare the total household price, number of eligible members, included features, and address or verification rules—not just the sticker price.
- Move to Spotify Free. The free service is ad-supported. Spotify says you retain access to saved tracks, playlists, music, and podcasts.
- Cancel before the new price takes effect. Use the date in Spotify’s email and confirm your next billing date in your account so you do not rely on the announcement date.
Spotify Support explains these options in its price-change guidance.

Can a Spotify gift card reduce the cost?
Spotify Support says a gift card bought at a lower price can still be redeemed, but only for Premium Individual. It is not a payment workaround for Student, Duo, or Family plans. Check the card’s terms before buying; this does not establish that discounted cards are currently available from any particular retailer. See Spotify’s gift-card terms.
