Cowell said Palace had been polite backstage and called Mel B’s remark “out of order.” The exchange did not establish that Palace had mistreated anyone.
What Mel B said to Micah Palace
After Palace performed “Spanglish” and “No Sabo,” Mel B praised the party atmosphere, then offered advice: “I just wanna give you a few words of advice: you’ve got to be nice to everybody, the crew, the people that dress you.” She added that he might meet those people “on the way back down.” Us Weekly and TV Insider reported the exchange and its context.
The televised advice did not explain what prompted it. The reports do not establish that Palace had treated crew or wardrobe staff badly, or that Mel B was accusing him of a specific incident.
Why Simon Cowell objected
Cowell asked Mel B what she meant. After Howie Mandel began giving feedback and host Terry Crews resumed, Cowell interjected with his own account: “I’ve seen you, Micah, backstage — this is my own perspective — you’ve been really polite and sweet to everybody.” He then told Mel B, “So that was out of order.”

Cowell framed his assessment as his personal backstage perspective; it is not independent proof of Palace’s conduct. Reports say the audience applauded his defense, a reaction to the moment rather than evidence about what happened backstage.
How Palace and Mel B responded
Palace said his mother had raised him to treat people respectfully and apologized to anyone he might have offended, saying that was not his intention. Us Weekly and TV Insider, relaying an explanation from People, reported that Mel B meant to pass along advice she had received as a young performer. That account is attributed to her reported intention; the broadcast itself did not provide that explanation.
