Sigourney Weaver and Pedro Pascal brought a playful Star Wars-meets-Aliens moment to the 98th Academy Awards on March 15, 2026. Grogu was in the audience near Kate Hudson as the actors presented awards; Weaver’s reported Aliens callback is part of the moment’s appeal, though its exact wording has not been verified in available coverage.
What happened when Sigourney Weaver and Grogu crossed paths?
During the presenters’ segment at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, Weaver and Pascal presented the awards for production design and visual effects. Grogu appeared in the audience, seated near Kate Hudson, according to the Los Angeles Times’ live coverage. ABC7’s verified video report described a shared moment involving Weaver, Pascal, Grogu and Hudson, and noted host Conan O’Brien joking about Grogu being unable to clap: ABC7’s Oscars report.
The Aliens connection is a reported gag, not a confirmed transcript. The available coverage does not establish Weaver’s exact words, so a familiar Ripley line should not be presented as a direct quote without checking the ceremony footage.
Why was Grogu at the Oscars?
Grogu’s appearance fit the franchise connection: Weaver stars as Colonel Ward in The Mandalorian and Grogu, with Grogu central to the film, as described by StarWars.com. The audience moment paired that current Star Wars role with Weaver’s best-known science-fiction legacy, her portrayal of Ellen Ripley in Aliens.
